Job Description

Irving Shipbuilding is searching for Labourers with Industrial Painting experience in Halifax, NS.

Responsibilities

• Apply safe work practices to all work performed.
• Use and maintain tools and equipment required for performing various work activities.
• Assist in docking and undocking vessels.
• Set up for specified work on a vessel or job site.
• Learn surface preparation, coating application, and apply those skills.
• Perform fire watch and confined space watch duties.
• Work with minimal supervision.
• Assist skilled-trades workers within the shipyard performing general labour work.
• Prepare compartments and ensure readiness and cleaning.
• Safely and efficiently use different types of power tools.
• Be a team player.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Less than 2 years of industrial painting experience required.
• Ability to work with different materials such as metals, construction materials, solvents, or coatings, including mixing industrial marine coatings.
• Problem-solving skills required.
• Ability to wear respiratory protection as needed.
• Physical ability to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, and climb.
• Capable of working at heights and in confined spaces.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs frequently and over 50 lbs occasionally.
• Work indoors and outdoors in various environmental conditions.
• Eligible to work in Canada; pre-employment physical and background check required.
• Support extended hours and overtime as needed.
• Able to operate power and hand tools and read drawings or blueprints (asset).
• Industrial sewing machine operation skills (asset).

Applicants must meet requirements for Canadian CGP, Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. ITAR.
