Job description

Irving Shipbuilding is searching for Labourers with Industrial Painting experience in Halifax, NS.

Qualifications
  1. Education Required: High School Diploma
  2. Experience: Industrial Painting experience required
  3. Skills: Ability to work with different materials such as metal products, construction materials, solvents, or coatings. Ability to learn mixing industrial marine coatings and products.
  4. Problem-solving skills: Required
  5. Physical Requirements: Ability to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work at heights on ladders, scaffolding, and platforms. Capable of working in confined spaces.
  6. Physical Effort: Frequently handle, lift, carry, and set up parts and equipment up to 50 lbs; occasionally over 50 lbs.
  7. Work Conditions: Indoor and outdoor environments, extreme conditions.
  8. Legal Requirements: Must be eligible to work in Canada, pass a pre-employment physical, background check, and meet Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. ITAR requirements.
  9. Additional Skills: Ability to operate power and hand tools, read drawings or blueprints (asset), operate industrial sewing machines (asset).
  10. Work Hours: Support extended hours and overtime as needed.
Responsibilities
  1. Apply safe work practices at all times.
  2. Use and maintain tools and equipment.
  3. Assist in vessel docking and undocking.
  4. Set up for specific work tasks.
  5. Learn surface preparation and coating application.
  6. Perform fire watch and confined space watch duties.
  7. Work independently with minimal supervision.
  8. Assist skilled trades workers with general labor tasks.
  9. Prepare compartments and perform cleaning.
  10. Use power tools safely and efficiently.
  11. Be a team player.
