Job summary

BC Transit in Victoria, BC is seeking a Daily Shift Manager to supervise the daily repair, operation and maintenance of the Victoria Regional Transit System fleet. This role leads a large unionized workforce and requires the ability to make day-to-day decisions on repairs, scheduling and safety.

You will coordinate shifts (including weekends and evenings), report to Maintenance Operations, and may be placed at Victoria or Langford Depots. Shift premiums apply for weekend/evening hours.

Qualifications

• Certified tradesperson or educated maintenance technician/technologist.
• Experience leading a team in a shop or mechanical environment.
• Strong maintenance/mechanical knowledge.

What you'll be doing

Reporting to the Manager, Maintenance Operations, the Daily Shift Manager is responsible for supervising the day-to-day repair, operation and maintenance activities of the Victoria Regional Transit System (VRTS) fleet. The incumbents oversee the safety and daily work activities of alarge, unionized workforce to execute planned and reactive maintenance activities while ensuringenough buses are ready for operation on a day-to-day basis. The position requires working a variety of shift schedules including days, evening, nights, and/or weekends. Shifts may be as follows: Friday - Monday, 8:00am - 6:00pm Monday - Thursday, 6:00am - 4:30pm Monday - Thursday, 4:00pm - 2:30amShift placement may be at our Victoria or Langford Depots. Please note that the shifts for this position are subject to change. You will be eligible for shift premiums for any weekend or evening shift worked.

What would make you an asset?

• You are a proven team player with excellent conflict resolution skills who has demonstrated experience managing a team within a fast-paced environment.
• You are someone who is comfortable leading a team with minimal supervision beyond yourself. You will be comfortable with day-to-day decision making on behalf of the maintenance team as well as supporting the organization of all repairs within our fleet of buses.
• You are a Certified Tradesman or have education as a Maintenance Technician/Technologist with a keen understanding of maintenance / mechanical practices.
