Job summary

Bruce County is seeking a casual Maintenance Assistant for Gateway Haven in Wiarton, Ontario. Under the Environmental Services Manager, you will perform general maintenance on the building and grounds to keep the facility safe and well‑run.

Ideal candidates have post‑secondary training in building trades and knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, or refrigeration systems. A relevant license is an asset, and a strong team approach is expected in a long‑term care setting.

What You'll Do

Under the direction of the Environmental Services Manager, the Maintenance Assistant is responsible to perform general maintenance on the building, property and grounds to ensure a safe environment and efficient use of resources.

What We're Looking For

Education & Experience

  • Post-secondary education/certification in building related trades
  • Technical training and knowledge in one or more of the following; heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), plumbing, electrical and refrigeration systems, and Maintenance systems for institutional buildings
  • License in plumbing, gas, electric or stationary engineering is an asset

Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of all aspects of physical plant, preventative maintenance functions and equipment safety
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Ability to work with others in a team approach
  • Physically able to perform assigned duties within a flexible work schedule
  • Genuine interest in the well-being of the elderly
  • Demonstrated patience, adaptability and flexibility
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of Life Safety Systems is an asset
  • Ability to meet and maintain health requirements as per Long Term Care Legislation
  • Clean Vulnerable Sector Criminal Reference Check
