Job summary

Canoco seeks an experienced Mainline Operator to join our Civil Division in Alberta. The role centers on underground utility installations, earthworks, and site development, requiring safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment on mainline projects.

The ideal candidate has trenching and excavation expertise, GPS machine control familiarity (Topcon/Trimble), a valid driver's license, and is available for overtime or shift work as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience as Mainline Operator in civil/underground construction.
• Proven ability to operate excavators and heavy equipment on underground/mainline projects.
• Experience with water, sewer, and underground utilities preferable.
• GPS machine control experience (Topcon/Trimble) is a plus.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Strong trenching/excavation knowledge and safe digging practices.
• Ability to read grades and project specs.
• Good communication and teamwork within a crew.
• Overtime or shift work availability.

Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment for mainline underground construction, including excavation, trenching, backfilling, grading, sloping, and material handling.
• Perform mainline excavation for underground utilities (water, sewer, and others).
• Excavate safely around existing utilities, pipelines, structures, and other infrastructure.
• Maintain trench depth, grade, and alignment per specs.
• Read grades, site plans, blueprints, and project specs.
• Collaborate with pipe crews, supervisors, grade personnel, and other operators.
• Conduct daily equipment inspections and routine maintenance for safe operation.
• Maintain a clean, safe work area and follow company safety policies.
• Report equipment issues or hazards promptly.

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Mainline Operator to join our Civil Division as soon as possible. This role is essential to the successful completion of our civil construction projects, including underground utility installations, earthworks, and site development. The ideal candidate will have proven experience operating heavy equipment on mainline underground projects safely, efficiently, and accurately.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate heavy equipment for mainline underground construction, including excavation, trenching, backfilling, grading, sloping, and material handling.
• Perform mainline excavation for underground utilities, including water, sewer, and other underground infrastructure.
• Excavate safely and accurately around existing underground utilities, pipelines, structures, and other infrastructure.
• Maintain proper trench depth, grade, and alignment according to project specifications.
• Read and interpret grade stakes, site plans, blueprints, and project specifications.
• Work closely with pipe crews, supervisors, grade personnel, and other operators to maintain production and complete work safely.
• Perform daily equipment inspections and routine maintenance to ensure equipment is operating safely.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area while following all company policies and safety requirements.
• Report equipment issues, hazards, or safety concerns promptly.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Mainline Operator in civil and underground construction is required.
• Strong experience operating excavators and other heavy equipment on underground/mainline projects.
• Experience with water, sewer, and underground utility installations is preferred.
• Experience with GPS machine control systems such as Topcon or Trimble is considered an asset.
• Valid driver's license required.
• Strong understanding of trenching, excavation techniques, soil conditions, grades, and safe digging practices.
• Experience working safely around underground and overhead utilities.
• Ability to read grades and work accurately to project specifications.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively as part of a crew.
• Flexibility to work overtime or shift work as required.
