Professional Excavators & Construction Inc. Calgary is seeking an experienced Excavator Lead to operate heavy equipment on water and sewer projects, supervising a crew, ensuring precision, safety, and efficient excavation.

You must have at least 5 years of excavator experience, a valid Heavy Equipment Operator license, and the ability to read blueprints and project specs. Willingness to overtime and work in diverse weather completes the profile.

Responsibilities

• Operate excavators and heavy machinery to dig trenches for water and sewer pipelines.
• Lead a team of excavator operators and laborers, coordinating daily activities and safety.
• Conduct pre-operation checks on equipment and report maintenance needs.
• Read and interpret blueprints and project plans for accurate excavation.
• Monitor site safety and enforce safety regulations among crew.
• Assist with installation and backfilling of pipelines, ensuring proper compaction.
• Communicate with supervisors to ensure smooth workflow and project objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate excavators and other heavy machinery to dig trenches for water and sewer pipelines, ensuring precise alignment and depth
• Lead a team of excavator operators and laborers, coordinating daily activities and ensuring adherence to safety protocols
• Conduct pre-operation checks on equipment to ensure it is functioning properly and report any maintenance needs
• Read and interpret blueprints and project plans to ensure accurate and efficient excavation processes
• Monitor job site safety and enforce compliance with safety regulations and best practices among team members
• Assist with the installation and backfilling of pipelines as needed, ensuring proper compaction and restoration of the work site
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and other team members to ensure smooth workflow and project objectives are met

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in operating excavators, specifically for water and sewer projects
• Proven leadership abilities with experience managing a team on excavation projects
• Strong understanding of safety protocols and regulations regarding excavation and heavy equipment operation
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and project specifications
• Valid Heavy Equipment Operator License and other relevant certifications are preferred
• Physical ability to perform manual labor when necessary and work in various weather conditions
• Willingness to work overtime and weekends as required to meet project deadlines
