Hexagon’s Autonomy and Positioning division in Alberta is seeking a Machinist Helper. You will learn to operate milling machines, lathes, grinders, sanders, and other tooling under the guidance of a CNC Machinist.

This entry-level role requires safety, attention to detail, and the ability to read blueprints, follow SOPs, and collaborate in a fast-paced ISO 9001 environment. On-site work with opportunities to grow in welding/fabrication assets.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience in welding and fabrication would be asset.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must communicate effectively and work in a team.
  • Follow written instructions, SOPs and guidelines.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail.
  • Work in a fast-paced shop environment.
  • ISO 9001 environment experience would be asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with setup, operation and maintenance of CNC tools for precision machining.
  • Read and interpret blueprints/drawings.
  • Assist in maintaining and repairing machining equipment.
  • Detect equipment malfunctions and adjust machines.
  • Computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Comply with ISO quality program and safety regulations.
  • Assist with maintaining inspection records and reports.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry standards and practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Overview

Reporting to the Shop Supervisor, the Machinist Helper assists and learns from an experienced CNC Machinist. The Machinist Helper will learn to operate milling machines, lathes, grinders, sanders, and other various machining tools, as well asassist in the repair and maintenance of machining equipment according to company plans, blueprints and other diagrams.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with set up, operation and maintaining a variety of machine tools including computer numerically controlled (CNC) tools to perform precision, non-repetitive machining operations such as sawing, turning, milling, boring, planning, drilling, precision grinding and other operations.
  • Read and interpret blueprints/drawings
  • Assist in the maintenance and repair of machining equipment
  • Assist with detecting equipment malfunctions and adjust machines
  • Computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Comply with company ISO quality program and procedures, company policies and safety regulations.
  • Assist with maintaining inspection records and completion of inspection reports.
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of industry standards and practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Experience working in an ISO 9001 environment would be considered an asset
