We are seeking an experienced Machine Shop Manager to oversee the daily operations of our CNC department. This role is responsible for coordinating labor and machine resources, ensuring production goals are met, and driving continuous improvement in safety, quality, delivery, and productivity. The ideal candidate will be a hands-on leader with strong technical knowledge of machining processes, a passion for employee development, and the ability to collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, quality, maintenance, and planning teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the daily operations of the machine shop, ensuring effective utilization of labor and equipment in a high-mix, low-volume production environment.
- Lead and develop a team of skilled machinists, fostering a culture of accountability, communication, and continuous improvement.
- Monitor and improve safety, productivity, quality, and on-time delivery metrics.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to identify and implement process improvements for safety, efficiency, and throughput.
- Work closely with Production Planning to manage capacity and constraints, and to meet customer delivery expectations.
- Work with Quality Engineering to develop and maintain a robust quality program focused on defect reduction and process control.
- Coordinate with the Maintenance Manager to prioritize machine repairs and sustain a proactive, operator-based preventative maintenance program.
- Maintain clear, consistent communication with upper management, providing updates on key performance indicators and operational challenges.
- Support and enforce workplace safety standards, ensuring compliance with OSHA and company regulations.
Qualifications
- Minimum 10 years of experience in CNC machining, with at least 5 years in a leadership or management role.
- Strong understanding of conventional and CNC machining, including equipment setup, tooling, programming basics, and machining principles.
- Ability to read and interpret complex machine drawings and technical documents.
- Experience developing and mentoring personnel with varying levels of skills and abilities.
- Proven track record of problem-solving in a production environment, including root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles, continuous improvement, and production scheduling.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work across departments to meet organizational goals.
- Technical degree or equivalent experience required; A.A.S. or B.S. in Manufacturing, Industrial Technologies, or related field preferred.

- Job Type: Full-Time, In-Person
- Pay Range: $115,000 – $155,000 per year (commensurate with experience)
- Schedule: Monday – Friday (8-hour shift)
- Expected Hours: 40+ hours per week (plus overtime as needed)
