Job summary

Cascades is seeking a Machine Operator (General Assistant Operator) for its Scarborough plant. You will support machine setup, material staging and quality checks on busy lines, with emphasis on safety and accuracy.

Full-time with guaranteed hours, 24/5 or 24/7 schedules, and a comprehensive benefits package. Training provided; strong teamwork and computer literacy are essential.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of manufacturing/industrial experience.
• High school diploma; English reading/writing.
• Able to read technical documents and learn machine operations.
• Strong attention to detail, teamwork, communication and safety.
• Experience with feeders/stackers and basic equipment is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Assist operator with machine setup, adjustments and changeovers.
• Prepare and stage materials; ensure load tags match production orders.
• Monitor product quality during feeding and production.
• Maintain workflow by handling pallets and material movement.
• Adjust machine components and clear jams to keep operations smooth.
• Support cleaning, basic maintenance and safety procedures (lockout/tagout).
• Communicate issues promptly and keep area clean and organized.
• Use SAP/eInventory systems for tracking and reporting.

We are hiring Machine Operators (General Assistant Operators). Selected candidates will complete interviews and pre-employment requirements during our Interview Day on September 29.

Please note that the internal job title is General Assistant Operator, which is equivalent to Machine Operator.

What you’ll do

As a Machine Operator, you’ll be at the heart of operations: right on the floor where materials take shape. Your day-to-day:

• Assist the operator with machine setup, adjustments, and changeovers
• Prepare and stage materials, ensuring load tags match production orders
• Monitor product quality during feeding and production processes
• Maintain continuous workflow by handling pallets and material movement
• Adjust machine components and clear jams to support smooth operation
• Support cleaning, basic maintenance, and safety procedures (including lockout/tagout)
• Communicate issues promptly and keep the work area clean and organized
• Use SAP/electronic systems for inventory tracking and reporting

Your strengths as a Machine Operator

You are a natural fit for this role if you have:

• 5+ years of manufacturing/industrial experience
• High school diploma (or equivalent) with ability to read and write in English
• Ability to understand technical documents (spec sheets, printing instructions) and learn machine operations
• Strong soft skills: attention to detail, adaptability, teamwork, communication, time management, and commitment to health and safety
• Manufacturing/industrial experience, including feeder or stacker operations (an asset)
• Basic mechanical aptitude and experience with equipment such as laminators/Asitrade, and/or flatbed die cutters (an asset)
• Ability to learn and gain required knowledge of machine operations and controls
• Proficiency with computers (PC literacy) and basic systems knowledge
• Good mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division)
