Position Overview

Maccess is seeking Peer Support Volunteers to assist in creating an accessible, supportive environment for McMaster students. Volunteers will help users access resources, provide peer support, and navigate university policies, all in a respectful and professional manner.

What is Peer Support with MACCESS?

• One-on-one emotional and practical support
• A safe space for expression and venting
• Peer role with shared lived experience
• NOT COUNSELING
• Mutuality and reciprocity
• Listening, validating, and creating space for concerns
• Support can vary each time
• Non-judgmental, supportive, and confidential

Volunteers will receive training on peer support, MSU Maccess, and related topics.

General Duties

• Represent Maccess responsibly and professionally
• Offer peer support and assistance in navigating university systems
• Provide a minimum of 2 hours and a maximum of 4 hours of peer support weekly
• Assist users in accessing resources and services
• Help with events, campaigns, and workshops
• Contribute to maintaining an accessible and inclusive space
