EcoToronto seeks Volunteer Stewards for the 2025 season at Highland Creek Park. Volunteers will engage in nature conservation efforts, gain training, and have the opportunity to become Lead Stewards in 2026. Job description

When: Wednesdays 5:30pm - 7:30pm
Where: Highland Creek Park (south end of Morningside Park), Scarborough, Toronto/GTA ON

Would you like to spend time outdoors, with great people, helping to restore nature?

Toronto Nature Stewards Highland Creek Park site is looking for dedicated and enthusiastic Volunteer Stewards to join our team as Volunteer Stewards in the 2025 Season and be eligible to become a Volunteer Lead Steward in the 2026 Season!

Key Qualities:

  • Interest in nature conservation
  • Enjoy being outdoors
  • Enjoy learning about native and invasive plants
  • Able to roll up your sleeves and pitch in for litter and invasive plant removal
  • Interest in planting native plants for nature restoration and to support wildlife
  • Like working in a team, able to follow easy instructions
  • Able to do free online Lead Steward training in Winter (Jan-April 2026)
  • Enjoy helping others, leading small groups, good decision making, good organizational skills

Time commitment is 2 hours per week in 2025. Training and mentorship is provided on-site in Highland Creek Park (south end of Morningside Park) by Volunteer Lead Stewards starting. All stewardship activites are conducted safely according to best practices backed by science, and in partnership with the City of Toronto and Toronto Nature Stewards.

Time commitment in winter is 2 hours per week (online) from January - May for Lead Steward Training.

Time commitment in spring - fall 2026 is 3 hours including organization, leading groups, and monitoring.

If you wish to only join as a Volunteer Steward in 2025 (not a Lead Steward) you're welcome to do so.
