Job information Lumber and Commodities Purchaser at FRASER VALLEY BUILDING SUPPLIES INC.. This Lumber and Commodities Purchaser vacancy is located in Mission, BC V2V 2V9, Canada. The position requires a Bachelor Degree. This procurement role is open until June 1, 2025.

Job Responsibility:

This is a 12-18 month contract for maternity leave coverage.

Job Summary

The Lumber and Building Materials Buyer reports to the Supply Chain Manager and is responsible for procuring lumber and building materials across all locations. The role involves providing market insights, ensuring competitive pricing, and maintaining inventory accuracy and integrity.

Responsibilities:

1. Procurement:
   • Procure lumber, plywood, OSB, and other building materials.
   • Provide market intelligence and strategic buying opportunities.
   • Collaborate with sales to develop quotes/bids.
   • Expedite orders and update the computer system.
   • Identify new product opportunities.
2. Supplier Management:
   • Communicate professionally with vendors and resolve issues regarding delivery, quality, and pricing.
   • Build and maintain vendor relationships.
   • Develop new supply sources.
3. Inventory Coordination and Control:
   • Maintain competitive pricing and achieve margin targets.
   • Develop policies for purchasing and inventory control.
   • Coordinate with accounts and warehouse teams to ensure stock accuracy.
   • Manage inventory levels within budgets.
4. Compliance:
   • Ensure accurate documentation of purchase orders, invoices, and agreements.
   • Maintain compliance with company policies and safety standards.
   • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications:

• 5-10 years of experience in Purchasing, Inventory Control, or Supply Chain, with extensive lumber market knowledge preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ERP systems.
• Understanding of inventory control and warehousing principles.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Knowledge of contracts and purchase terms.
• Attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
