Job summary

The Calgary Food Bank is seeking a Logistics Manager to lead warehouse operations, ensure timely, accurate distribution of goods, and drive safety and efficiency across the supply chain.

Reporting to the Director of Logistics, you will supervise a team of Logistics Supervisors and warehouse staff, develop annual plans, set KPIs, and partner with procurement, client services, and operations to move the organization’s mission forward.

Qualifications

  • 5-7+ years of experience in warehouse management.
  • Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or related field preferred.
  • SCMP designation (or similar) preferred; experience working in the Food Industry preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Organize and prioritize work requirements for staff and volunteers; ensure tasks align with policies and procedures.
  • Lead a team of Logistics Supervisors and warehouse staff; conduct performance evaluations and development plans.
  • Own and implement the annual business plan for logistics management; set KPIs and timelines.
  • Champion health and safety programs, food safety standards, and compliance.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives across operations and support learning/development.

The Opportunity

Reporting into the Director of Logistics , t heLogistics Manager oversees operations management of warehousing to support the organization's mission of fighting hunger. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in warehouse management, excellent leadership skills, and a commitment to community service. This role plays a vital part in ensuring food efficiently and effectively reaches those in need while maintaining safety/security compliance, and continuous improvement standards.

What You’ll Do:
Key Responsibilities:
  • Organizingand prioritizingwork requirements for staff and as necessary for volunteers. Ensuringtasks and duties are delegated appropriately, and work tasks aligns with organizational policies and procedures.
  • People leadership and management, including performance evaluations, development & training plans, and management ofteam worked hours.
  • Own and implement the annual business plan for logistics management, aligning with organizational goals.
  • Set performance objectives, timelines, and KPIs for logistics processes in line with the business plan.
  • Comply with, contribute to, and champion the CFB Health and Safety programs, health and safety regulations, and food safety/handling standards.
  • Participate in creating and implementing CFB Program operations, while contributing to strategic planning initiatives.
  • Initiate, support, and drive continuous improvement initiatives across operations.
  • Contribute to learning and development programs for team growth.
  • Support and participate in community events, programs, and outreach as needed.
  • Work closely with other departments, including Inventory & Procurement, Client Services, Volunteer Resources, Community Engagement, etc. to ensure seamless operations.
Leadership and Staff Management:
  • Supervise and directly lead a team of Logistics Supervisors and indirectly all warehouse staff, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and professional development.
  • Ensure the effective recruitment, training, and onboarding of new warehouse staff members.
  • Manage staffing levels to ensure adequate coverage for all operations.
  • Ensure compliance with equipment training and safety protocols.
Warehouse Management:
  • Supervise and directly lead a team of Logistics Supervisors and indirectly all warehouse staff, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting teamwork and professional development.
  • Ensure the effective recruitment, training, and onboarding of new warehouse staff members.
  • Manage staffing levels to ensure adequate coverage for all warehouse operations.
  • Manage for succession planning – identifying and developing future leaders to replace key individuals when they leave or retire.
  • Ensure compliance with equipment training and safety protocols.
What You Bring
Education and Experience Required:
  • 5-7+ years of experience in warehouse management.
  • Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field preferred.
  • SCMP designation (or similar) preferred; experience working in the Food Industry preferred; volunteer management experience preferred; Project Management experience preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a highly collaborative business approach.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate, coach, and develop staff.
  • Excellent initiative, organization, and analytical skills with proven problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations, including food safety standards, warehouse standards, and transportation compliance.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, knowledge of inventory management software, and experience working with business intelligence reporting.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Working Conditions
  • This is a full-time, regular position, with occasional evenings and weekends as required.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to work in a warehouse environment, including standing, walking, and lifting for extended periods.
  • Potential exposure to varying temperatures and weather conditions during deliveries.
