Job summary

GFL Environmental Inc. is seeking a Plant Operator for the afternoon shift at 96 Middleton Street, Brantford, ON. The role focuses on waste receiving, handling, processing, and disposal with hands-on operation of plant equipment.

Responsibilities include waste sampling, loading/unloading vehicles, and maintaining SOP compliance in an outdoor environment. The position emphasizes safety, teamwork, and adherence to environmental regulations.

Qualifications

  • Prior hazardous and non-hazardous waste management experience is an asset.
  • Experience operating air diaphragm pumps and bulk liquid transfer systems is an asset.
  • Propane forklift experience/certification is an asset.
  • Motivated, able to multi-task, and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Safety conscious and detail oriented.
  • Comfortable working in a mostly outdoor environment.
  • Ability to follow procedures and execute work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to lift upwards of 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

  • Receive all client waste – both bulk liquids/solids and containerized.
  • Take samples from waste vehicles for lab analysis.
  • Load and unload waste vehicles including vacuum trucks, tankers, oil trucks, straight trucks and van trailers.
  • Operate plant machinery and assist with general maintenance.
  • Work while using respirator.
  • Assist in waste paint blending methods and processes.
  • Assist with preparing shipments of hazardous and non-hazardous waste for transport.
  • Understand and follow SOPs, and ensure they are followed.
  • Notify supervisor/manager of defects, damages, or incidents.
  • Document and report completion status of work assigned.
  • Comply with safety, hygiene, and PPE rules.
  • Maintain work area to meet housekeeping and environmental standards.
  • Other tasks as assigned.

Job description

Under general direction from the operations supervisor, the Plant Operator is responsible for day-to-day operations with respect to waste receiving, handling, processing, and disposal.

The position is for afternoon shift at our 96 Middleton Street, Brantford, ON location.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Receive all client waste – both bulk liquids/solids and containerized
  • Take samples from waste vehicles for lab analysis
  • Load and unload waste vehicles including vacuum trucks, tankers, oil trucks, straight trucks and van trailers
  • Operate plant machinery and assist with general maintenance
  • Working while using Respirator
  • Assisting in waste paint blending methods and processes
  • Assist with preparing shipments of hazardous and non-hazardous waste for transport
  • Gain a full understanding and working knowledge of the company’s standard operating procedures (SOPs), and ensure they are followed
  • Notify the Shift Supervisor/Operations Manager of any defects, damages, mistakes, errors, contamination, spills, other incidents or accidents that are identified
  • Document and report completion status of work assigned by the Shift Supervisor/Manager
  • Comply with rules, procedures, safe work and hygiene practices, health and safety standards and use of personal protective equipment.
  • Maintain work area to ensure compliance with housekeeping, environmental and safety regulations.
  • Other tasks as assigned.
