Adecco is currently recruiting for a Litigation Law Clerk for our client in Ottawa, ON. The ideal candidate must be able to work on-site.
Responsibilities of the Litigation Law Clerk include:
- Reviewing and revising pleadings for tribunals and court levels including Small Claims, Superior Court, Ontario Court of Appeal, Federal Court, and Federal Court of Appeal
- Preparing and filing necessary forms with the appropriate bodies
- Arranging and coordinating service of documents as needed
- Assisting lawyers in preparing for depositions, hearings, trials, and conferences; handling administrative tasks related to individual cases
- Investigating factual evidence and preparing exhibits, charts, and diagrams
- Preparing court documents such as Affidavits of Documents and Bills of Costs
- Researching caselaw and preparing Books of Authorities
- Reviewing factums and finalizing with hyperlinks to authorities and tables of authorities
- Organizing and tracking firm and matter deadlines; maintaining the firm’s database
- Managing files, including opening, closing, and filing documents; communicating with clients and organizing meetings
Mandatory requirements for the Litigation Law Clerk:
- Bilingual in French and English (speaking and writing)
- 3 to 5 years of law clerk experience, ideally in a law firm setting
- Experience with all court levels
- Excellent attention to detail
- Typing speed of approximately 60 words per minute
- Advanced knowledge of OneKey, Caselines, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and other firm systems
- Ability to think proactively and use initiative
- Flexible, dependable, and able to work under pressure within tight deadlines
- Conscientious, approachable, and enthusiastic
- Ability to quickly build confidence, respect, and trust with others
- Positive attitude towards daily tasks and a solution-focused mindset
