Job summary

HTM Law LLP is seeking an Associate Lawyer to join its busy Litigation team with a focus on mortgage and condominium foreclosures, collections and general litigation. You will own files and gain significant court experience within a supportive team.

Qualifications

  • 1–5 years of civil litigation experience, with practical knowledge of Alberta foreclosure procedures, Land Titles Act and Condominium Property Act.
  • Strong legal research, analytical and drafting skills required.
  • Excellent oral advocacy and negotiation abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with legal assistants and senior counsel.

Responsibilities

  • File Management: Manage civil litigation files from inception to resolution, including mortgage foreclosures and condominium collections foreclosure actions.
  • Advocacy: Appear before Alberta courts as required.
  • Drafting: Prepare pleadings, affidavits, applications, briefs and legal opinions.
  • Client Relations: Provide strategic advice to financial institutions, condominium corporations and private lenders.
  • Negotiation: Conduct settlement negotiations, mediations and alternative dispute resolution processes.

Job description

HTM Law LLP is currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Associate Lawyer to join our busy Litigation team, with a specific focus on mortgage and condominium foreclosures, collections and general litigation.

The Opportunity

This role is ideal for a junior-to-mid-level lawyer looking to take ownership of files, gain significant court experience, and advance their career within a supportive team structure. You will manage a diverse caseload involving civil disputes and legal enforcement proceedings for institutional and private clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • File Management: Manage civil litigation files from inception to resolution, including mortgage foreclosures and condominium collections foreclosure actions.
  • Advocacy: Appear regularly before the Alberta Court of King's Bench (including Applications Judges) and the Alberta Court of Justice.
  • Drafting: Prepare high-quality pleadings, affidavits, applications, briefs, and legal opinions.
  • Client Relations: Provide strategic advice to financial institutions, condominium corporations, and private lenders, ensuring prompt communication and updates.
  • Negotiation: Conduct settlement negotiations, mediations, and alternative dispute resolution processes.
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Education: Graduate of a recognized Canadian law school (LL.B. or J.D.).
  • Professional Standing: Member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta (or eligible for immediate membership).
  • Experience: 1 to 5 years of relevant experience in civil litigation, with practical knowledge of Alberta foreclosure procedures, the Land Titles Act, and the Condominium Property Act.
  • Skills:
  • Strong legal research, analytical, and drafting skills.
  • Excellent oral advocacy and negotiation abilities.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with legal assistants and senior counsel.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills to manage competing deadlines.
