Job summary

St. Angela's Meadow Care Centre, part of Jarlette Health Services, seeks a Life Enrichment Coordinator to plan, implement, and evaluate engaging activities for residents in a on-site setting in Chatham, Ontario.

The role focuses on holistic wellness, autonomy in activity selection, and collaboration with families and other departments to enhance resident well‑being. Prior experience in long-term care and budgeting are valued.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary diploma/degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Plan, implement and evaluate culturally sensitive activities for residents addressing spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional and physical needs.
• Monitor participation and ensure residents maintain choice and autonomy in selecting activities.
• Collaborate with other departments and residents’ families; connect residents with the wider community.
• Provide ongoing training to the team and manage capital and operating budgeting for the department.

Meadow Park Chatham now known as St. Angela’s Meadow Care Centre is a fully accredited long term care home in Chatham, Ontario and serves 160 residents. Chatham is the urban centre of Chatham-Kent, a large municipality in Southwestern Ontario located between Windsor (approximately 80 km to the west) and London (approximately 115 km to the east). It is known for its fertile farmland, a diverse economy of manufacturing and agriculture, and rich history, including its role in the Underground Railroad.

Join our team as a Life Enrichment Coordinator!

Reporting to the Executive Director, this position is instrumental in fostering a vibrant and engaging environment for residents to ensure their well-being and satisfaction.

The Life Enrichment Coordinator is responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of culturally sensitive activities for residents. These activities address spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional, and physical needs. A crucial element of this function is monitoring participation and ensuring residents maintain choice and autonomy in selecting activities.

The Life Enrichment Coordinator collaborates closely with other departments and residents’ families, facilitates resident connection with the wider community, and provides ongoing training to the team. They are also responsible for the capital and operational budgeting processes for the department.

We are looking for the following qualifications and traits:

• Successful completion of a post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, gerontology or other related field from an Ontario post-secondary institution, or a post-secondary diploma, degree or certificate granted in another jurisdiction that in the reasonable opinion of the licensee is equivalent.
• Experience in the health care or relevant field/setting as required under the Fixing Long Term Care Act, 2021 ss. 72 (2) and Ontario Regulation 246/22);
• Gentle persuasion approach or Montessori preferred;
• Experience working with seniors in a long-term care setting;
• Knowledge and demonstrated experience in individual and group program planning, implementation, and evaluation for those with differences in cognitive abilities;
• Must demonstrate an active interest in ongoing education;
• Must have knowledge of community resources, recreation program development and techniques;
• Must be computer literate
