Job summary

Interior Health is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) for the IHSC 1 Surgical team at Kelowna General Hospital in Kelowna, BC. The role involves conducting assessments, planning and delivering nursing care in collaboration with the care team.

Shifts are days and nights (07:00–19:00 and 19:00–07:00) on an as-needed casual basis; acute care experience is an asset. Employers provide a comprehensive benefits package and ongoing education opportunities.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a recognized Practical Nurse program.
• Current licensure with BCCNM in good standing.
• CPR certification current and valid.

Responsibilities

• Performs assessments and plans, and provides nursing care to patients in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team.
• Administers oral, subcutaneous and intramuscular medications according to policies and procedures.
• Operates within BC Standards of Practice and organizational guidelines and unit protocols.

Education

Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses

Current full practicing licensure with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)

About the Job:

Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN):

• Performs assessments and plans, implements and provides personal and nursing care to patients in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team; the scope or extent of the skills that the LPN performs varies according to the predictability of the outcome for a given client population
• Administers oral, subcutaneous and intramuscular medications in accordance with pharmaceutical and organizational policies and procedures
• Operates in accordance with the competency guidelines and full scope of practice within the Standards of Practice as outlined by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM), and according to organizational policies, procedures, standards and unit specific protocols

Employment Details

This is a Casual opportunity. Casual Employees are not guaranteed hours of work and can range from 0-37.5 hours per week on an as-needed basis.

Shift Schedule

Shifts of work will be scheduled days and nights; rotating from 07:00 to 19:00, 19:00 to 07:00 hours.

About this location/unit:

Interior Health has embarked on an expansion plan to meet increasing demands, expand health services, and enhance patient care in the Okanagan. Construction of the six-storey, Centennial Patient Care Tower was completed in May 2012. It includes an expanded emergency department and ambulatory care department, five new operating rooms, a rooftop helipad, an expanded adult inpatient psychiatric unit, and extra space for more patient beds in the future. Kelowna General Hospital is the site of the brand new clinical academic campus for the University of BC Medical School.

Unit Details

IHSC 1 is a 20 bed Surgical inpatient unit for shorter length stays, Main specialties include Urology and Dental but also supports the following services Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Gyne, Plastics, ENT.

Qualfications

• Graduation from a recognized program for Practical Nurses
• Current full practicing licensure with the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM)
