Job summary

St. Michael’s Health Centre in Lethbridge, part of Covenant Health, is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse to join the Dementia Care unit on a 0.60 FTE, temporary part-time basis.

You will work with a multidisciplinary team to deliver holistic, person-centred care for residents with dementia, applying current nursing knowledge and applying safe clinical judgment. Active LPN registration with CLHA and BLS Level C are required; the role involves shifts across days, evenings and weekends, with 7.75

• Graduate of a Practical Nursing program or recognized equivalent.
• Active registration with CLHA.
• Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.
• Minimum 1 year dementia or geriatric care experience.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Familiarity with EHR systems such as Connect Care.

Description:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) works as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team, collaborating in the delivery of holistic care and support to patients/residents and families. The LPN practices to full scope, applying professional nursing knowledge, clinical judgment, critical thinking, and communication skills to support safe care and positive health outcomes. The role is committed to providing person-centred, culturally safe, and inclusive care that respects the diverse backgrounds, experiences, values, and needs of patients/residents and families. Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications: Graduate of a Practical Nursing program or recognized equivalent required. Active registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA). Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider (Level C) required.

Additional Required Qualifications

Minimum of 1 year of experience working with individuals with dementia or in a similar geriatric care setting. Basic understanding of dementia care principles, including techniques for managing challenging behaviors. Strong clinical skills and the ability to perform a range of nursing tasks with precision and care. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment. Ability to demonstrate patience, empathy, and professionalism in all interactions with residents and their families.

Preferred Qualifications

Certification or additional training in dementia care (e.g., Certified Dementia Care Specialist). Certification or training in crisis management techniques, such as Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) or Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI). Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems, such as Connect Care. Knowledge of Alberta’s regulations and best practices for dementia care. Training in non-pharmacological interventions and behavior management techniques.
