Job summary

Kiknu, Nova Scotia’s first long term care home on a Mi’kmaq First Nation community, seeks a Licensed Practical Nurse to join the Kiknu team in Eskasoni. Shannex operates with the First Nations community to deliver dignified elder care that respects Mi’kmaw culture.

Assess and coordinate resident needs, lead health services staff, and ensure high standards of care. A favorable schedule, training opportunities, and a robust benefits package accompany this role.

Qualifications

  • Registration with the provincial Practical Nursing regulatory body.
  • CPR & First Aid certification (required).
  • Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search on hire.
  • Ability to work flexible hours including days, nights, weekends and holidays.
  • Experience in long-term care or elder care is an asset.
  • Alzheimer’s and Dementia care training is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, evaluate and direct resident needs in collaboration with medical staff.
  • Provide leadership to health services staff and oversee quality health services.
  • Promote communication and policy compliance with management and care teams.
  • Administer and record prescribed medications per policy.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and reporting.
  • Apply dressings and treatments as ordered by physicians.
  • Supervise and evaluate other healthcare staff; perform other duties as assigned.

Shannex acts as the operating partner alongside the First Nations community of Eskasoni in the operation of Kiknu. Together, we will ensure the community will deliver exceptional service and care while honouring Mi’kmaw culture, values and traditions.

We are searching for a Licensed Practical Nurse to join our Kiknu team based in Eskasoni, Nova Scotia.

About The Opportunity
  • Assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating, documenting and directing resident needs through consultation with medical professionals, care conferences and internal staff
  • Providing leadership to health services staff and overseeing provision of quality health services respecting the client’s right to individualized planning of health services
  • Working with the existing management and health services teams to promote communication and compliance to policies and procedures
  • Administers and records prescribed medication as per company policy and scope of practice
  • Maintains the standards of accurate and complete documentation and reporting
  • Applies dressings and treatments according to physician’s orders and policy
  • Assists with supervision and evaluation of job performance and behavior of other health care staff
  • Additional related duties as assigned
About You

In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:

  • Registration with the provincial Practical Nursing regulatory body
  • Ability to work a schedule of flexible hours and shifts inclusive of days, nights, weekends, and holidays
  • A valid CPR & First Aid Certification (required)
  • A clear criminal record with vulnerable sector screening upon hire
  • Any previous course in Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care to be an asset
  • Previous working experience with elderly in long-term care or a senior living environment an asset
  • Successful candidates will be required to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check, and where applicable, a Vulnerable Sector Check, prior to appointment.
  • A passion for the healthcare sector and/or ensuring seniors have access to quality accommodations, services and care
