Job summary

Kiknu Long Term Care, operated by Shannex Incorporated, is seeking a Cook for its Eskasoni, Nova Scotia location. This role focuses on planning, preparing, and serving meals that respect therapeutic guidelines within a residents-first environment.

You will work with a collaborative kitchen team to maintain high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency. The position emphasizes adherence to recipes, proper food handling, and participation in ongoing education through Shannex’s Centre of

Qualifications

  • Culinary Arts Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Valid Food Handler's certificate.
  • Experience in large quantity food preparation.
  • Ability to read and follow detailed recipes/instructions.
  • Candidates may be required to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and prepares meals according to established standards, recipes and menus.
  • Assists with preparation of food for special functions to meet standards.
  • Reports shortages, discrepancies or quality issues to Executive Chef or supervisor.
  • Cleans and sanitizes cooking station daily and maintains kitchen equipment cleanliness.
  • Follows disposal procedures for waste management per guidelines.
  • Performs additional related duties as assigned.

Shannex acts as the operating partner alongside the First Nations community of Eskasoni in the operation of Kiknu. Together, we ensure the community will deliver exceptional service and care while honouring Mi’kmaw culture, values and traditions.

We are searching for a Cook to join our Kiknu Long Term Care team based in Eskasoni, Nova Scotia.

About The Opportunity
  • Plans and prepares meals according to established standards, procedures, recipes and menus, including preparing special meals to meet appropriate therapeutic menu modifications according to established guidelines
  • Assists with preparation of food for special functions (e.g. catering, theme dinners) to ensure service meets established standards
  • Reports any recipe shortages, discrepancies or quality issues to the Executive Chef or supervisor in a timely manner
  • Cleans and sanitizes cooking station daily; maintains cleanliness of kitchen equipment such as ovens, kettles, mixers or others according to legislative and organizational standards
  • Follows disposal procedures according to established waste management guidelines for organics, paper, plastics, cans/bottles, non-recyclable material, etc

About You

In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:

  • You have a Culinary Arts Diploma
  • You possess a valid Food Handler’s certificate.
  • You have experience in large quantity food preparation.
  • You can read & follow detailed recipes/instructions as required
  • Successful candidates will be required to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check, and where applicable, a Vulnerable Sector Check, prior to appointment.
