Job summary

Kiknu, Nova Scotia’s first long-term care home on Eskasoni First Nation, seeks a Continuing Care Assistant to support elders with daily living activities, hygiene, meals, and mobility. You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to develop individualized care plans and participate in leisure activities within a culturally respectful environment.

Qualifications

  • Candidate holds a valid Continuing Care Certification or Provincial Personal Care Worker course.
  • Registered in Nova Scotia’s CCA registry as per the Continuing Care Assistants Registry Act.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification required.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check where applicable.

Responsibilities

  • Assist residents with hygiene and daily living activities (bathing, dressing, oral care, meals, mobility).
  • Collaborate with the care team to develop individualized Resident Care Plans.
  • Assist in planning and implementing daily resident leisure activities.
  • Assist with light housekeeping duties.
  • Perform delegated nursing acts according to company policy and scope of practice.
  • Report relevant information regarding resident care or safety to Supervisor.

Kiknu, meaning “our home” in Mi’kmaq, is Nova Scotia’s first long term care home on a First Nation community. A residents-first approach to care and service ensures Kiknu is supporting independence, promoting dignity and placing value on the choices for how elders want to live their lives.

Shannex acts as the operating partner alongside the First Nations community of Eskasoni in the operation of Kiknu. Together, we will ensure the community will deliver exceptional service and care while honouring Mi’kmaw culture, values and traditions.

We are searching for a Continuing Care Assistant to join our Kiknu team based in Eskasoni, Nova Scotia.

About The Opportunity
  • Assists residents with hygiene and daily living activities, such as bathing, dressing, oral care, skin care, meals, and mobilizing according to the work assignment.
  • Collaborates with the resident and other members of the interdisciplinary team in the development of individualized Resident Care Plan.
  • Assists in the planning and implementation of resident leisure activities daily.
  • Assists with light housekeeping duties.
  • Performs delegated nursing acts according to company policy and scope of practice
  • Communicates and reports relevant information regarding resident care or safety to Supervisor
About You

In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:

  • You have a valid Continuing Care Certification or Provincial Personal Care Worker course or equivalent.
  • You are registered in Nova Scotia’s CCA registry as per the Continuing Care Assistants Registry Act

  • You can work a schedule of flexible hours and shifts inclusive of days, nights, weekends, and holidays,
  • You can provide a clear criminal record with vulnerable sector screening;
  • Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care course considered an asset.
  • Previous working experience with elderly in long-term care or a senior living environment an asset
  • Valid CPR & First Aid Certification
  • Successful candidates will be required to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check, and where applicable, a Vulnerable Sector Check, prior to appointment.
  • A passion for the healthcare sector and/or ensuring seniors have access to quality accommodations, services and care
