Job summary

The City of Windsor is seeking a Licensed Motor Mechanic to maintain and repair motorized vehicles and equipment. You will diagnose engines, ignition, fuel, hydraulics and drive trains, read schematics, weld, and ensure safety and compliance with WHMIS and OHSA guidelines.

You must hold a 310T certificate and a valid Ontario G license, with a strong emphasis on safety, accuracy, and teamwork in a 40-hour, regular full-time role with shift work expectations.

Qualifications

  • Must have an Ontario Secondary School Graduation Diploma or Ontario Ministry of Education equivalency.
  • Must possess a current Certificate of Qualification 310T (Truck and Coach Technician).
  • Must hold and maintain a current valid and lawful Class G Driver's Licence in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act, for the purposes of operating a City of Windsor vehicle and provide a driver’s abstract as a condition of employment;
  • Must possess good oral and written communication skills.
  • A Certificate of Qualification 310S (Automotive Service Technician) would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repairs to motorized vehicles and equipment using proper tools and methods.
  • Validate inspections in a safe, professional, and efficient manner following government acts and regulations.
  • Inspect and perform preventative maintenance to equipment and motorized vehicles.
  • Diagnose, repair, rebuild and/or replace engines, ignition systems, fuel systems, hydraulics, drive train, brakes, AC, tires, etc.
  • Operate diagnostic computer terminal to identify problems.
  • Read blueprints and electrical schematics.
  • Weld and fabricate using oxy-acetylene and arc welding equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness of equipment, tools, and work areas.
  • Write detailed reports, estimates and work orders accurately.
  • Communicate and cooperate with other employees with minimum supervision.
  • Guide other employees and trainees.
  • Operate all vehicles and equipment.
  • Work in all weather conditions.
  • Perform on-street repairs, bus change-offs and towing as needed.
  • Follow WHMIS safety guidelines for handling materials.
  • Lift/carry parts and tools across job areas.
  • Perform Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the City’s program.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Performing maintenance and repairs to motorized vehicles and other equipment, using proper tools and methods;

  • Performing Occupational Health & Safety duties as outlined in the Corporation’s Health and Safety Program; and
  • Performing other related duties as required.
