Job summary

UPS Supply Chain Solutions in Surrey, BC, is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic (Millwright) to support our automated facility. The role requires diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems to keep the sorting operation running smoothly.

The position is full-time, permanent, unionized, with a 3:00 AM–11:30 AM shift. Benefits include training, weekly pay, vacation accrual, and company perks. Immediate access to UPS Employee Discounts and parking are provided.

Qualifications

  • Must have Grade 12 or equivalent education.
  • Hold a valid Red Seal Millwright certification.
  • 3 years of post-apprenticeship maintenance experience on industrial equipment.
  • Experience maintaining conveyor belts preferred.
  • Ability to read electrical schematics and work with basic computer systems.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and replace mechanical components (motors, conveyors, pulleys, belts).
  • Troubleshoot and repair AC/DC electrical equipment (batteries, control stations, fuses, relays).
  • Maintain pneumatic equipment (air compressors, hoses, coils).
  • Maintain hydraulic equipment (hoses, fittings, cylinders, pumps).
  • Weld components (handrails, supports, equipment).
  • Perform preventive maintenance on conveyors and power equipment.

Job Description

The Maintenance Mechanic (Millwright) position supports the package sorting system, including belt conveyors, at our state-of-the-art Surrey Automated Facility. In our industry, this position is also known as Plant Mechanic or Industrial Mechanic. This position is responsible for a broad range of maintenance activities performed to keep UPS package handling facilities operating efficiently and effectively. The work can be fast-paced and requires routine interaction with other operations employees.

Pay rate

$39.24/hr. (Base Rate $36.00/hr. + Hourly Bonus of $3.24/hr.)

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing and/or replacing mechanical components such as motors, reducers, drive chains, sprockets, sheaves, pulleys, rollers, conveyor belts, bearings, and transfer plates

  • Troubleshooting, adjusting and replacing AC and DC electrical equipment such as batteries, control stations, fuses, motor starters, relays, switches, and timers

  • Inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing and/or replacing pneumatic equipment such as puck sorters, flow splitters, diverters, air compressors, lubricators, hoses, and coils

  • Inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing and/or replacing hydraulic equipment such as hoses, fittings, cylinders, and pumps

  • Welding equipment such as handrails, conveyor supports, package handling equipment, carts, and grating

  • Performing preventive maintenance inspections of plant equipment such as conveyors, bulk carts, and power industrial equipment

Requirements
  • Grade 12 education or equivalent

  • Possession of a valid Red Seal Millwright Certification

  • Ability to receive and give instructions over the radio in an industrial environment

  • 3 years of post-apprenticeship experience performing maintenance on industrial equipment

  • Experience in performing maintenance on conveyor belts

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Knowledge of electrical schematics

  • Knowledge of keyboard and basic computer skills- Asset

Expenses/Working Conditions
