Job summary

UPS is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic (Millwright) at our Surrey, BC facility to maintain and repair conveyor systems and related equipment. The role operates 3:00 AM–11:30 AM, Monday–Friday, with occasional weekends during peak season.

Pay rate is $39.24/hr, base plus hourly bonus, with full-time permanent unionized status. Required: Grade 12 or equivalent, valid Red Seal Millwright, 3+ years post-apprenticeship, conveyor experience, strong communication and basic computer skills.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • Red Seal Millwright Certification.
  • 3 years post-apprenticeship maintenance on industrial equipment.
  • Experience maintaining conveyor belts.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of electrical schematics.
  • Basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing and replacing mechanical components such as motors, reducers, drive chains, sprockets, rollers, conveyor belts, bearings.
  • Troubleshooting electrical equipment including batteries, control stations, fuses, relays, switches, timers.
  • Maintaining pneumatic equipment like puck sorters, air compressors, lubricators, hoses and coils.
  • Maintaining hydraulic equipment such as hoses, fittings, cylinders and pumps.
  • Welding equipment on rails and supports.
  • Performing preventive maintenance inspections on conveyors and power equipment.

Job Description:

The Maintenance Mechanic (Millwright) position supports the package sorting system, including belt conveyors, at our state-of-the-art Surrey Automated Facility. In our industry, this position is also known as Plant Mechanic or Industrial Mechanic. This position is responsible for a broad range of maintenance activities performed to keep UPS package handling facilities operating efficiently and effectively. The work can be fast-paced and requires routine interaction with other operations employees.

Work Location: 19088 38TH Avenue, Surrey, BC V3S 0P6, Canada

Department: Buildings and Systems Engineering

Shift: 3:00 AM to 11:30 AM Monday through Friday

(Flexibility required to work occasional weekends & non-regular shifts, especially during peak season)

Pay rate: $39.24/hr. (Base Rate $36.00/hr. + Hourly Bonus of $3.24/hr.)

Key Responsibilities

  • Inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing and/or replacing mechanical components such as motors, reducers, drive chains, sprockets, sheaves, pulleys, rollers, conveyor belts, bearings, and transfer plates

  • Troubleshooting, adjusting and replacing AC and DC electrical equipment such as batteries, control stations, fuses, motor starters, relays, switches, and timers

  • Inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing and/or replacing pneumatic equipment such as puck sorters, flow splitters, diverters, air compressors, lubricators, hoses, and coils

  • Inspecting, troubleshooting, repairing and/or replacing hydraulic equipment such as hoses, fittings, cylinders, and pumps

  • Welding equipment such as handrails, conveyor supports, package handling equipment, carts, and grating

  • Performing preventive maintenance inspections of plant equipment such as conveyors, bulk carts, and power industrial equipment

Requirements

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent

  • Possession of a valid Red Seal Millwright Certification

  • Ability to receive and give instructions over the radio in an industrial environment

  • 3 years of post-apprenticeship experience performing maintenance on industrial equipment

  • Experience in performing maintenance on conveyor belts

  • Excellent interpersonal skills

  • Knowledge of electrical schematics

  • Knowledge of keyboard and basic computer skills- Asset

Expenses/Working Conditions

  • Monthly union dues (approximately $52/month)
