Job summary

Waterloo Region District School Board is seeking a Library Clerk (C) for Coronation PS. Reporting to the Principal, you will support the school library by assisting students and staff, managing materials, and promoting reading in print and digital formats.

The role runs 21 hours per week, 10 months per year, with duties including shelving, circulation and cataloging tasks. The ideal candidate has a secondary school diploma and clerical experience, with library software familiarity and Insignia

Qualifications

  • THR Library Clerks: Insignia Library Fundamentals basic training and library experience is required.
  • Enhanced library knowledge through Insignia advanced training including circulation management, search and discover.

Responsibilities

  • Charge, discharge, shelve and repair loaned materials.
  • Assist staff and students in using the library and locating resources in the LIBSYS.
  • Handle overdues, maintain statistics, and correspondence.
  • Process new materials and manage ministry software.
  • Monitor library automation hardware and audiovisual equipment.

Applicants will be considered in the following order:

1) Qualified permanent ESS/OSSTF Bargaining Unit employees.

2) Qualified probationary, temporary and Temporary Hourly Rated (THR) ESS/OSSTF employees.

3) Qualified external applicants (includes employees from other Bargaining Units)

Reporting to the Principal, and following the "Best Practices and Guidelines" related to library circulation and collection maintenance as outlined by ITS Library and Resource Services, this position is responsible for performing clerical duties in the elementary school library. The library clerk will play an important role in the school in encouraging the love of reading and providing access to resources for learning, and promoting use of resources in print and digital formats.

The successful applicant for this Educational Support Staff position Level C will work 21hours per week, 10 months per year, effective as soon as possible.

Responsibilities
  • Charging, discharging, shelving and repairing loaned materials;
  • Assisting staff and students in the use of the library and locating resources using the integrated library system;
  • Handling overdues, statistical records and correspondence;
  • Filing and processing new materials, Ministry software, etc; and
  • Monitoring library automation hardware and audiovisual equipment and accessories.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Secondary School graduation diploma is required;
  • At least one years experience in the clerical field required, preferably in a library;THR Library Clerks: Insignia Library Fundamentals basic training and library experience is required;
  • Enhanced library working knowledge through completion of the following workshop is preferred: Insignia advanced training session which includes library fundamentals, circulation management, search and discover and online library support.
  • Well-developed keyboarding skills;
  • Ability to adapt to the ever-changing nature of school libraries;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students and staff;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; and
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of the job including but not necessarily limited to stooping, kneeling, bending, reaching above shoulder level, standing for extended periods of time, lifting, pushing and pulling objects weighing up to 50 pounds with assistance.
