Arcadis is looking to hire a Legal Director A&U to provide business-focused Legal, Compliance & Privacy (LCP) support to the Architecture & Urbanism (A&U) division aligned with the divisional strategic objectives. The Legal Director, A&U role includes responsibilities within Compliance and Privacy.

Location: Canada

Reporting Lines: The Legal Director, A&U reports directly to the General Counsel North America with a dotted line to the BA Director A&U and the GBA Legal Director, Places.

Direct Reports: The Legal Director A&U has three attorneys and two paralegal support staff. The role involves building a collaborative network with stakeholders in other countries where A&U operates, especially in the US, UK, and Canada, working closely with LCP teams and Centers of Expertise.

Individual Accountabilities:

  1. Support A&U leadership in decision-making as a business partner.
  2. Establish influential relationships to support strategic priorities and effective decision-making.
  3. Develop understanding of project and commercial aspects, participate in strategic pursuits, and support LCP initiatives.
  4. Collaborate on claims management, dispute resolution, and settlement negotiations.

Leverage global expertise:

  1. Provide insights and develop a global view on LCP risks, drawing from all relevant country teams and CoEs.
  2. Drive lessons learned into the business.
  3. Share LCP knowledge and best practices across all A&U countries.

Interact with the global LCP team:

  1. Implement and ensure application of global policies within A&U.
  2. Promote standardization and automation, minimizing unnecessary customization.
  3. Align with GBA Legal Director Places and provide relevant reports to global teams.

Accountability, Culture & Compliance:

  1. Model and promote core values and behaviors, including Privacy Rules.
  2. Leverage best practices across countries and global businesses.
  3. Ensure compliance with laws and regulations, increasing awareness and providing training.

Travel: International travel may be required, aligned with sustainability and global travel policies.

Shared Accountabilities:

  1. Support growth and strategic ambitions by managing LCP risks.
  2. Build trusted relationships with senior leaders on strategic priorities.
  3. Provide advisory support and drive initiatives impacting A&U.

Decision Rights:

  • Owns: A&U LCP priorities
  • Influences: A&U initiatives and decisions
  • Vetoes: Areas of non-compliance

Qualifications & Experience:

Bachelor's or master's degree, with at least 10 years of senior legal leadership, qualified to practice law, with broad experience in contracts and disputes.

Further requirements include:

  • Proven business partnership skills, understanding of business needs, financial acumen, and operational knowledge.
  • Strong grasp of LCP components and ability to drive operational excellence globally.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with experience in consulting and coaching.
  • Experience with issues in a global division, including employee and labor issues.

Preferred Experience:

  • Background in architectural or designing firms is strongly preferred.
