NorQuesters are difference makers, and we're searching for someone who can apply learning theory, universal design principles, and foundational knowledge from the Alberta K-12 curriculum to support learner success. Working one-on-one with foundational and post-secondary learners, including those with experience of disability and those who have English as an additional language, Learning Support Specialists support the academic progress of learners by compassionately meeting them where they are at and collaborating with Instructional Faculty and the broader student services team to ensure wrap-around academic support.

The Learning Support Specialist (English and Writing) position provides in-person and online learning support to students in a variety of NorQuest courses and programs, inclusive of high school English, language learning programs (EAL and LINC), as well as post-secondary courses in the humanities and social sciences, such as Business Communications, and first-year university courses such as Technical Writing and Introduction to Composition. Learning Support Specialists work with students via multiple delivery channels, including drop-in tutoring and academic coaching and coaching appointments for students referred by Accessibility (Disability) Services. You will have the opportunity to learn new curriculum, experiment with varied approaches to supporting learners, as well as the opportunity to innovate, as we transform our services to meet the college’s strategic goals and work towards our commitment to Indigenization, decolonization and becoming an anti-racist organization.

• Provide personalized tutoring and academic coaching by assessing learner needs and developing individualized, strengths-based learning strategies.
• Create a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment that fosters student success and academic resilience.
• Collaborate with faculty, Accessibility Services, Indigenous Student Services, and other college partners to deliver coordinated, wrap-around support.
• Build strong relationships with assigned program areas and connect students to appropriate resources and services.
• Lead and contribute to initiatives, projects, and best practices that enhance student learning, academic success, and service excellence.
• Support operational excellence through activities such as scheduling, promotions, referrals, and maintaining accurate usage data for reporting and decision-making.

WHAT YOU BRING

A degree in Education (Bachelor's or Graduate level) and a Master's Degree(or working towards completion of a Master's degree) arerequired. Equivalent education and related experience may also be considered.

Academic specialization isrequiredin English and writing (inclusive of foundational language learning and academic writing).

Applied knowledge of learning theory;expertiseand experience with Universal Design or differentiated learning isrequired.

2+ years'directly relatedexperience working with diverse learners in an educational setting, especially those who have English as an additionallanguage and those with experience of disability.

This student-facing role requires availability on campus at least four days per week, with the option to work remotely one day per week.
