How You’ll Help Us Better Service Our Clients

The Learning & Development Specialist supports the Firm’s employee learning, knowledge management, technology adoption, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Reporting to the Manager of Legal Support Services, this role is responsible for coordinating and delivering onboarding and learning programs, developing practical learning resources, supporting the effective adoption of Firm technologies and processes, and maintaining and enhancing the Firm’s knowledge resources. The Specialist works closely with Human Resources, Legal Support Services, practice groups, and business departments to ensure lawyers and business services employees have access to effective learning opportunities, accurate information, and consistent processes.

This role brings together learning and development, knowledge management, technology adoption, and process improvement within a centralized function that supports employee effectiveness and the Firm’s strategic and operational objectives.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Coordinate onboarding and orientation programs for lawyers and business services employees in collaboration with Human Resources, practice groups, and department leaders.
  • Assess learning and development needs across the Firm and develop practical training solutions in collaboration with key stakeholders.
  • Develop, update, and maintain training materials and self-service learning resources, including manuals, user guides, videos, reference materials, and other learning content.
  • Deliver engaging training sessions on Firm technologies, business processes, internal systems, and operational practices.
  • Support ongoing Legal Support Services training and development initiatives, including onboarding, skills development, and refresher training.
  • Work closely with the Supervisor of Library and Digital Content Services to support knowledge management and learning initiatives and promote the effective development, organization, and sharing of Firm resources.
  • Develop, maintain, and organize standard operating procedures, process documentation, user guides, knowledge articles, and other Firm resources.
  • Monitor the quality, usability, and adoption of learning and knowledge resources and identify opportunities to improve employee engagement and access to information.
  • Identify gaps and inefficiencies in documentation, workflows, and business processes, and recommend and implement standardized approaches to improve operational consistency and efficiency.
  • Support Firm-wide process improvement initiatives and cross-functional projects, particularly where learning, knowledge management, technology adoption, or change management support is required.
  • Gather feedback from lawyers, business services employees, and other stakeholders to evaluate the effectiveness of training, knowledge resources, and related processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Track and report on learning and knowledge management initiatives, including participation, adoption, effectiveness, and other relevant measures, to support continuous improvement.
  • Proactively identify emerging learning and development needs and recommend new programs, tools, and approaches to support employee development, technology adoption, and Firm priorities.
  • Undertake additional projects and responsibilities as required to support departmental and Firm priorities.
Education & Experience
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in learning and development, training, knowledge management, or a related function, ideally within a professional or corporate environment.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and delivering training programs, workshops, and learning initiatives for a range of audiences.
  • Experience creating clear, practical learning materials and knowledge resources, including training guides, procedures, process documentation, and self-service content.
  • Experience supporting technology adoption, change initiatives, or the implementation of new systems and processes is considered an asset.
  • Experience working as a legal assistant is considered an asset.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to develop clear, concise, and engaging learning and knowledge resources.
  • Excellent presentation, facilitation, and training delivery skills, with the ability to engage a range of audiences and accommodate different learning styles.
  • Ability to translate complex information, systems, and processes into practical, accessible training and reference materials.
  • Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with lawyers, business services employees, and leaders across the Firm.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain a high level of quality and accuracy.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate, consistent, and high-quality learning and knowledge resources.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify opportunities for improvement and develop practical solutions.
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work independently while contributing effectively to cross-functional initiatives.
Technical Skills
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft 365, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint.
  • Experience administering SharePoint, intranet sites, knowledge management platforms, or similar digital workplace tools.
  • Experience with digital learning tools and technologies, including developing user-friendly training materials and self-service resources.
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and business applications; experience with iManage, learning management systems (LMS), or technology implementation and adoption is considered an asset.
