Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Canada is seeking a Project Lead Structural Engineer to guide a team of structural professionals, interface with clients, and manage a diverse project portfolio across heavy commercial, industrial, and nuclear facilities.

You will apply advanced analysis and design tools, mentor staff, and ensure deliverables meet project requirements. The role includes site visits and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams in a hybrid work environment.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering from a ABET- or CEA-accredited program.
• 10+ years on a project team in design/analysis of heavy industrial, commercial, or nuclear structures.
• Proficiency with major structural analysis software and design codes (ASCE 7, AISC, ACI).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Direct the preparation and review of design calculations, specs, reports and deliverables.
• Supervise and mentor engineers to ensure quality engineering outputs.
• Perform structural analysis and design of steel frames, concrete members, and foundations.
• Travel to client/vendor sites for reviews and field coordination.

Description

This is a Project Lead Structural Engineer position that offers a variety of interesting and challenging opportunities in structural engineering and will provide an excellent opportunity to advance your career. In this position you will guide a team of structural engineers, interface with clients and engineers from other disciplines as well as manage a variety of exciting projects. This position will enable you to:

• Apply your knowledge of materials, structural analysis, structural steel design, and reinforced concrete design in the successful execution of assigned tasks
• Work on a wide range of projects for various clients and interface with them as required
• Direct the preparation and review of design calculations, specifications, reports and other deliverables and support designers with drawing development.
• Supervise and mentor others in the development of quality engineering deliverables
• Perform the structural analysis and design of steel frames, connections, concrete members, and foundations using our state-of-the-art computer tools
• Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant site locations for construction coordination and field verification of designs

This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in‑office work 3 days per week, giving you the flexibility to work remotely for two days.

Essential Skills And Experience

• BS degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering from a Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board‑accredited undergraduate program or a US based ABET‑accredited program
• Ten or more years of experience working as a member of a project team in the design and analysis of industrial / heavy commercial or nuclear facility structures
• Proficiency with structural analysis software such as STAAD, SAP2000, SAFE, STRUDL, or ANSYS
• Proficiency with design codes and standards such as ASCE 7, AISC, and , ACI
• Good written and verbal communication skills

Valued, But Not Required

• Active Ontario Power Generation (OPG) security clearance
• MSCE degree
• P.Eng license
• On site construction support experience

• Overseeing engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs, is valued but not required.
• We also value additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables effective oversight of automation and agentic AI‑enabled engineering workflows.

Compensation Range

$130,193 - $179,016
