Job summary

Sargent & Lundy in Canada is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join a project team that designs, modifies, and analyzes power plant electrical systems.

You will investigate and troubleshoot engineering issues, prepare calculations for AC/DC studies, and help develop design input and drawings for multiple projects.

This is a hybrid role requiring in-office work three days per week with two remote days, offering competitive benefits and a collaborative environment.

Qualifications

  • BS in Electrical Engineering from an ABET/CEAB accredited program.
  • 3+ years designing electrical systems in a project team for power plants.
  • Experience with medium/low voltage distribution, transformers, generators, motors.
  • Experience as a firm/client liaison in lead engineering roles.
  • Experience reviewing design drawings and calculations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in teams as well as independently.
  • Detail oriented approach to work.

Description

Under the direction of the electrical engineering lead or project manager, this position will offer you the opportunity to work in a project team environment with other engineers and designers involved in the design, modification, and analysis of new and existing power plant electrical systems.

  • You will work on challenging assignments that include investigating, trouble-shooting, and solving a wide variety of electrical engineering issues
  • Assist the electrical engineering lead or project manager in efforts to ensure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time, and within budget
  • Prepare and review detailed calculations, including three phase AC and DC power studies, short circuit, voltage drop, motor starting and protective relay settings
  • Prepare engineering documentation for design input for drawing production
  • Prepare and review engineering reports and studies that present technical information in a clear and concise manner and meet client requirements and S&L formats
  • Perform independent reviews of work performed by others including calculations and drawing preparation
  • Develop project work plans

This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in-office work 3 days per week, giving you the flexibility to work remotely for two days.

Essential skills and experience:

  • A BS in Electrical Engineering from a Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board-accredited undergraduate program or a US based ABET-accredited program
  • 3 or more years of experience in the design of electrical engineering systems in a project team environment with a focus on integrated, detailed system design for new plants, or modifications or replacements for existing plants; experience should include the selection of equipment, materials, control philosophy, and the preparation and assembling of calculations and specifications
  • Experience is required with electrical system design including medium and low voltage distribution systems (transformers, generators, motors), equipment selection, and analytical calculations
  • Experience with serving as firm/client liaison in a support or lead engineering role
  • Experience in reviewing design drawings created by others
  • Effective critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective working in teams and individual work
  • Detail oriented approach to work

Valued but not required skills and experience:

  • PE license
  • MSEE
  • Construction and start-up experience a plus

  • Programming or scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate calculations, design checks, reporting, or data transformation is valued but not required.
  • We also value additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other training in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that helps you apply automation or agentic AI to real engineering problems.

Compensation Range

$64,262 - $98,178
