Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Structural Engineer to join the team in a hybrid work setting. The role focuses on engineering projects for new nuclear facilities, as well as upgrades and modifications to existing plants.

You will collaborate with a team of structural engineers and interface with other disciplines on complex design tasks. Responsibilities include applying structural analysis and design knowledge, preparing calculations, and supporting designers with drawings.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering from a CEAB‑accredited program.
  • Three or more years of experience working on design and analysis of structures including AISC steel and ACI concrete designs.
  • Experience with structural analysis software such as STAAD, SAP2000, SAFE, STRUDL, or ANSYS.
  • Experience with design codes and standards such as ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.

Job Overview

This position offers a variety of interesting and challenging opportunities in structural engineering and will provide an excellent opportunity to advance your career. You will collaborate with a team of structural engineers and interface with engineers from other disciplines. You will work with a structural engineering team on engineering projects for new nuclear facilities and upgrades and modifications to nuclear power plants.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Directly apply knowledge of materials, structural analysis, structural steel design, and reinforced concrete design.
  • Prepare and review design calculations, develop specifications, and support designers with drawing development.
  • Perform the structural analysis and design of steel frames, connections, concrete members, and foundations using state‑of‑the‑art computer tools.
  • Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant site locations for construction coordination and field verification of designs.
Hybrid Work Schedule

This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in‑office work 3 days per week, giving you the flexibility to work remotely for two days.

Qualifications

We do not sponsor employees for work authorization in Canada for this position.

This position may require access to U.S. export‑controlled information. As such, candidates must be a citizen of a country listed in Appendix A to Part 810 of the Code of Federal Regulations.

Essential Skills and Experience
  • BS degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering from a Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board‑accredited undergraduate program or a US‑based ABET‑accredited program.
  • Three or more years of experience working as a member of a project team in the design and analysis of structures, including both AISC steel and ACI concrete designs.
  • Experience with structural analysis software such as STAAD, SAP2000, SAFE, STRUDL, or ANSYS.
  • Experience with design codes and standards such as ASCE 7, AISC, and ACI.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
Valued, But Not Required
  • MSCE degree
  • Experience with design and analysis of power plant and/or industrial structures
  • On‑site construction support experience
  • P.Eng license
AI & Automation at Sargent & Lundy
  • Take engineering problems from issue to solution using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost‑effective designs.
  • Build or use automation to create calculations, summarize technical documents, or draft design documentation, with strong engineering judgment and verification of results.
  • Programming or scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate calculations, design checks, reporting, or data transformation is valued but not required.
  • Additional learning in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that helps apply automation or agentic AI to real engineering problems is valued.

Compensation Range

$64,262 - $98,178
