Job summary

The City of Hamilton is seeking a Registered Nurse to join the Healthy & Safe Communities Department. Reporting to the Director of Nursing, you will provide professional care, supervise RPNs and PSWs, and coordinate unit activities for residents in a long-term care setting.

You will use PointClickCare for electronic documentation, maintain accurate records, and develop care plans while upholding health and safety standards.

Qualifications

• Must be registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Experience in Long Term Care or geriatrics is desirable.
• Knowledge of RAI–MDS is essential.
• Experience with PointClickCare or electronic documentation is an asset.
• Demonstrated ability to observe and follow standards and policies.
• Strong leadership in planning, coordinating and supervising staff.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and assessment skills.
• Ability to work independently and with cross-disciplinary teams.
• Knowledge of Health and Safety legislation as it relates to nursing.
• Wamiliarity with scheduling and coordinating nursing duties.

Responsibilities

• Provide professional nursing care to residents under the direction of the Director of Nursing.
• Plan, direct and coordinate unit activities and supervise RPN and PSW staff.
• Administer medications and supervise medication administration by nursing staff.
• Maintain accurate nursing records and assessments, including MDS/RAPS and care plans.
• Develop and maintain resident care plans and conduct preceptorship for students.
• Ensure safety, cleanliness and compliant equipment use in the unit.
• Collaborate with physicians, dieticians and other staff to meet resident needs.
• Prepare nursing schedules and build good relationships with staff and external agencies.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety policies and incident reporting.
• Provide patient-centered care with empathy, professionalism and ethics.
