Lead Mechanic
Position Summary

Plum Energy Solutions is seeking an experienced Lead Mechanic to take ownership of the mechanical maintenance, reliability, and readiness of Plum's fleet and field equipment.

This is a hands-on leadership position for someone who can work on equipment themselves, but who can also establish a disciplined maintenance program, prioritize work, lead other mechanics, and ensure equipment is ready when Operations needs it.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced energy/industrial environment where equipment availability, safety, reliability, and turnaround time are critical. This position will be field and shop focused, with the ability to respond to emergency repairs in the field as required.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance & Reliability:

  • Lead day-to-day mechanical maintenance activities for Plum equipment and fleet.
  • Perform preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical/control and equipment issues.
  • Identify potential failures before they become operational problems.
  • Establish and maintain preventative-maintenance schedules.
  • Ensure scheduled maintenance is completed on time and properly documented.
  • Conduct post-job inspections and ensure equipment is returned to service in a safe, reliable condition.
  • Troubleshoot breakdowns and coordinate emergency repairs when required.
  • Perform root-cause analysis on recurring equipment failures.
  • Develop equipment-specific maintenance procedures and checklists.

Equipment Readiness:

  • Maintain a clear understanding of the condition and availability of all critical equipment.
  • Establish daily/weekly equipment-readiness priorities with Operations.
  • Identify equipment that is unavailable, at risk, or approaching required maintenance.
  • Ensure equipment is properly inspected, maintained, repaired and released before deployment.
  • Work closely with Operations and Manufacturing to coordinate equipment availability.

Leadership:

  • Lead and coordinate mechanics, vendors/ external maintenance resources.
  • Establish clear expectations for workmanship, safety, documentation and productivity.
  • Train and mentor junior mechanics and technicians.
  • Allocate maintenance resources based on equipment criticality and operational requirements.
  • Hold team members accountable for completing work correctly and on schedule.

Parts & Vendors:

  • Identify critical spare parts and establish appropriate inventory levels.
  • Work with purchasing to ensure parts are available when required.
  • Manage relationships with outside repair facilities and maintenance vendors.
  • Obtain quotes and help evaluate repair-vs-replace decisions.
  • Reduce unnecessary external maintenance costs by developing internal capability where practical.
  • Ensure warranty opportunities are identified and pursued.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Perform all work in accordance with Plum's safety policies and applicable legislation.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained in a condition suitable for safe operation.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and inspection records.
  • Participate in safety investigations and corrective actions where equipment is involved.
  • Support Plum's QHSE and equipment-compliance programs.
Required Qualifications
  • Ideally 10+ years of industrial/heavy-equipment mechanical experience, preferably in energy, oil & gas, transportation, utilities, construction or a similar environment.
  • Journeyperson Heavy-Duty Mechanic or comparable mechanical qualification is preferred.
  • Strong mechanical troubleshooting and diagnostic ability.
  • Experience maintaining heavy equipment, trailers, trucks, pumps, compressors, generators or similar industrial equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience with preventative maintenance programs.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, manuals and technical documentation.
  • Strong understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, mechanical systems and basic electrical/control systems.
  • Experience using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) is an asset.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to maintain accurate digital maintenance records.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work in field and shop environments.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends or respond to emergency equipment issues when required.
  • CVIP experience and certification considered and asset, but not a requirement.
Leadership Requirements

The successful candidate must demonstrate:

  • Ability to lead people and coordinate maintenance activities.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to prioritize competing maintenance requirements.
  • Strong communication with Operations, Manufacturing and Management.
  • Ability to hold themselves and others accountable.
  • Ability to establish structure where maintenance processes are currently inconsistent.
  • A proactive mindset rather than waiting for equipment to fail.
  • Ability to make sound decisions under operational pressure.
  • Pride in equipment condition, workmanship and documentation.
