Job summary

SkyAlyne in Ottawa is seeking a Lead Ground-Based Training Systems (GBTS) professional to oversee delivery of ground-based training for the FAcT program. You will coordinate with a major subcontractor and multiple IPTs to meet requirements, schedules, and budgets, while driving cross-functional collaboration and risk mitigation.

The role requires a proven PM track record, technical knowledge of training devices and simulation, and the ability to lead teams in a dynamic defence environment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5+ years managing technical programs in training devices or simulation.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and subcontractors.
  • Ability to hold Government of Canada security clearance (Secret).
  • Eligible to work in Canada; fluent English; French is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage GBTS activities, ensuring scope, schedule, and budget alignment.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to integrate training devices into the system.
  • Identify and mitigate risks and issues across GBTS initiatives.
  • Provide regular status reports to senior management on progress and blockers.
  • Propose continuous improvement initiatives across GBTS processes.

About SkyAlyne

SkyAlyne is a team of defence , training, simulation, and aviation industry experts assembled from across Canada, working to prepare the next generation of RCAF Pilots and Aircrew as the Future Aircrew Training ( FAcT ) program provider for the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF).

SkyAlyne was formed in 2018 as a partnership between CAE and KF Aerospace, two Canadian aviation, training, and defence leaders. The partnership was built to jointly answer the call for the Government of Canada’s FAcT program. In 2023 SkyAlyne was named the preferred bidder, and in 2024, was officially contracted to partner with the RCAF and deliver the FAcT program. We are now building a new team to deliver the FAcT program .

The scope of the FAcT program includes all training and in-service support requirements needed to prepare Pilots, Air Combat Systems Officers, and Airborne Electronic Sensor Operators to meet the future aerospace requirements of the RCAF. The FAcT program is overseen from a Joint Management Office at SkyAlyne’s Ottawa headquarters in Kanata, with three operational bases: Moose Jaw, SK, Southport, MB, and Winnipeg, MB .

In collaboration with the Government of Canada and several major Canadian subcontractors, Team SkyAlyne will provide live-flying, simulator and classroom-based training, facilities construction and management, information management and information technology support, site support services, aircraft maintenance and much more .

Job Overview

The Lead Ground-Based Training Systems (GBTS) will be responsible for overseeing and managing the delivery of ground-based training systems for the Future Aircrew Training (FAcT)

program. This role will be working closely with a major subcontractor and collaborating across multiple Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) to ensure that project requirements, schedules, and budgets are successfully met. This is a leadership role and will require an individual with a proven track record in project management, technical expertise in training devices and/or simulation, and the ability to lead cross-functional teams effectively. This role reports directly to the Deputy Program Manager/Head of Transition.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage a key subcontractor responsible for delivering training solutions. Ensure that the subcontractor adheres to the agreed scope, timelines, and established budget.
  • Maintain and track schedules and budgets for all GBTS activities. Proactively identify and resolve any deviations from the planned timeline or budget to keep the project on track.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including engineering, operations, and program management teams, to ensure the successful integration of training devices and simulation solutions into the broader system.
  • Identify, track, and mitigate risks and issues related to ground-based training solutions. Ensure that corrective actions are taken in a timely manner to avoid delays or budget overruns.
  • Monitor the design, development, and integration of training devices to ensure progress remains aligned with operational requirements, project objectives, and applicable industry standards.
  • Oversee changes to scope requirements and technical baselines, ensuring impacts are communicated to stakeholders.
  • Ensure training devices and simulation solutions meet quality, compliance and customer acceptance.
  • Regularly report to senior management on the status of GBTS activities, including schedule, budget, and any potential risks or issues. Ensure clear communication across all levels of the program.
  • Propose continuous improvement initiatives across GBTS activities by identifying opportunities to enhance processes and delivery.
  • Other duties as required.

Q ualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in project management, engineering, or related technical field.
  • Minimum of five (5+) years of experience in project management, with a strong background in leading technical programs related to training devices, simulation, or related fields.
  • Experience managing large-scale projects, including schedule and budget management, risk mitigation, and resource allocation. Certification in Project Management (e.g., PMP) would be an asset.
  • Proven ability to manage cross-functional teams and subcontractors.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to influence and drive outcomes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to address complex technical, schedule, and budget challenges effectively.
  • Experience in the Defence and Aerospace industries would be an asset.
  • Be able to hold a Government of Canada Security Clearance (Secret level) and Controlled Goods Clearance.
  • Eligible to work in Canada.
  • Strong oral and written English language capabilities.
  • Fluency in French would be an asset.
