Job summary

Johnson Service Group, Inc. seeks a Lead Engineer for System Protection & Controls to guide protection, control, and reliability across Alberta’s electricity system. You will lead complex studies, coordinate with utilities, regulators, and industry partners, and shape grid modernization strategies.

The role requires a P.Eng. (APEGA) and 12+ years in electric utilities with a focus on protection. A hybrid work arrangement is offered with in-office days in Alberta.

Qualifications

• PEng with APEGA registration or eligibility.
• 12+ years in electric utilities with a focus on Protection & Controls.
• Experience in protection studies, coordination reviews and reliability initiatives.
• Familiarity with AESO/NERC standards and regulatory frameworks.
• Experience leading multi-disciplinary technical programs and teams.
• Knowledge of protection coordination, RAS, anti-islanding, and related protection analysis.

Responsibilities

• Serve as senior technical expert on protection, control, coordination and reliability.
• Lead protection and coordination studies for transmission and generation projects.
• Develop and maintain protection philosophies, practices, standards and requirements.
• Mentor engineers and review technical reports and studies.
• Engage with industry groups and stakeholders to advance protection practices.
