Job summary

Elastic is seeking a Principal Software Developer to join the Elasticsearch - Analytical Engine team to define, direct, and build the next generation of ES|QL capabilities. You will influence the compute engine, interfaces, and language syntax while collaborating across continents and teams.

You will lead data-intensive enhancements, research algorithms, and work with partners to shape a strategic long-term roadmap.

Qualifications

• Experience leading complex technical projects in data-intensive domains.
• Proven ability to mentor engineers and provide guidance across teams.
• Ability to define and drive a long-term technical vision for a data-heavy application.
• Hands-on experience with search and analytics APIs (e.g., Elasticsearch).
• Strong core Java skills and knowledge of data structures and concurrency.

Responsibilities

• Define, lead, and contribute to the ES|QL compute engine roadmap.
• Research features, data structures, and algorithms to build capabilities for users.
• Collaborate with product teams and partners to align with the strategic vision.
• Build scalable, fast, and intuitive software for analytics workloads.
• Provide technical vision for customer interfaces and underlying language syntax.
