Job summary

Elastic is seeking a Principal Software Developer to join the Elasticsearch - Search team. This globally distributed role focuses on enhancing vector similarity search, designing and implementing new features, and resolving complex bugs to improve search relevance.

The candidate will lead initiatives, work with a cross-functional team across continents, and contribute to high-performance vector search capabilities. Strong Java, collaboration, and open-source experience are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience with vector similarity on large-scale search platforms.
• Proficiency in Java and standard data structures/concurrency.
• Familiarity with open source software development practices.

Responsibilities

• Lead initiatives within Elasticsearch to deliver a leading vector database offering with high speed and relevance.
• Contribute to Elasticsearch full-time, building new search features and fixing bugs, possibly implementing new algorithms or data structures.
• Collaborate with a globally distributed team focused on vector search capabilities and ES internals.
• Serve as an expert on vector similarity in Elasticsearch and guide improvements based on questions and instincts.
• Collaborate with community members on issues and PRs, triaging and handing off when needed.
• Write idiomatic modern Java; promote clean, understandable code.
