Job summary

Dutch is seeking a Lead AI/Data Engineer in Canada to design and scale AI systems powering pet care solutions. You will own AI infrastructure, evaluation, and cost-management while building data pipelines, warehouse models, and analytics infrastructure to support AI features and product analytics.

You will partner with product and engineering teams to deliver AI capabilities through APIs and production applications, shaping the data platform and ensuring robust, observable systems.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of experience in software, data, or ML engineering.
• 2+ years building and operating LLM applications in production.
• Strong Python and SQL skills for production systems.
• Hands-on experience developing AI agents and LLM applications.
• Experience designing LLM evaluations with datasets and automated graders.
• Experience with LLM observability, performance optimization, and cost management.
• Experience deploying services on AWS, GCP, or Azure with containers/CI/CD.
• Knowledge of Snowflake, dbt, and orchestration tools (Prefect, Airflow, Dagster).
• Familiarity with Segment and Amplitude, or willingness to learn.
• Familiarity with BI tools (Sigma, Looker, Tableau).

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate production AI agents and services for users and teams.
• Own AI development infrastructure: evaluation frameworks, prompt optimization, observability, cost management.
• Establish engineering standards and reusable patterns for retrieval and tool calling.
• Run systematic experiments across models, prompts, and architectures; build tests and datasets.
• Evolve the semantic layer to answer business data questions accurately.
• Collaborate with product engineers to deliver AI capabilities via APIs in production.
• Build and maintain ELT pipelines and dbt models in Snowflake; orchestrate with Prefect.
