Job summary

Dutch Vet is seeking a hands-on Lead AI/Data Engineer to design, build, and scale production AI systems powering our veterinary care platform in Vancouver. You’ll own AI infrastructure, evaluation, prompts, observability, and cost management, while shaping data pipelines, warehouses, and analytics to support AI features across our products.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of software, data, or ML engineering experience.
• 2+ years building/operating LLM apps in production.
• Proficient in Python and SQL for production systems.
• Hands-on AI agent development using LLM APIs and tools.
• Experience designing LLM evaluations with automated graders and tests.
• LLM observability, performance optimization, and cost management.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate production AI agents and services for users and teams.
• Own AI development infra: evaluation frameworks, prompts, observability, and cost management.
• Establish standards and reusable patterns for retrieval, tool calling and model selection.
• Run experiments across models, prompts, and architectures; build evaluation datasets.
• Evolve semantic layer to answer questions about business data.
• Collaborate with product/engineering to deliver AI capabilities via APIs.
• Build and maintain ELT pipelines and dbt models in Snowflake; use Prefect, Airbyte for ingestion.
• Develop data marts and datasets for AI features, analytics, and experimentation.
• Ensure data quality tests, freshness checks, and pipeline alerts.
• Diagnose pipeline failures and improve reliability; support warehouse security and cost management.
• Maintain data governance and security considerations.
