Job summary

ALS Vancouver is seeking a Layout Clerk to efficiently process incoming samples into the analysis stream, organize samples, verify client data, and enter information into lab systems. You’ll work both independently and with the team to deliver accurate, timely service.

This role supports sample reception, temperatures, paperwork, and coordination of rush work, with day, afternoon, and graveyard shifts including weekends; a high school diploma and basic lab awareness are required, with growth

Qualifications

  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Some experience in fast-paced production/processing environments preferred.
  • Knowledge from high school science and basic lab safety is an asset.
  • Experience with chemicals or in a laboratory setting is an asset but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates day-to-day activities of sample reception/layout clerks.
  • Receives samples, verifies client information, and records temperatures.
  • Carries out required paperwork for sampler analyses and processing.
  • Notifies on non-conformances or rush work and distributes samples to locations.
  • Ensures timely processing to meet turnaround goals and supports backup login duties.

Job description

About the Position

The Layout Clerk is responsible for the timely and accurate processing of incoming samples into the analysis stream. The priority will be to receive and organize samples, verify client information, and enter pertinent information into the laboratory data systems. You will be working independently and in a team environment, with an emphasis on providing quality and efficient service to clients.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Coordinates the day-to-day activities of the sample reception/layout clerks;
  • Acts as the primary point of contact regarding sample reception for the lab staff and Account Managers for questions regarding samples and client submissions;
  • Coordinates all of the incoming work and directs organizational priority based on holding times, rush TAT, etc.;
  • Coordinates any subcontract samples that need delivery to Shipping on a daily basis;
  • Ensures a high level of customer service in all interactions with clients and couriers;
  • Carries out all duties of the Sample Receipt Clerk as required (see below for details); Receives samples and communicate with couriers;
  • Records sample temperatures and conditions on delivery;
  • Completes required paperwork for sampler analysis requests and processing;
  • Notifies Client Service representatives of any non-conformances or rush work;
  • Labels samples and distribute to the appropriate locations when required;
  • Processes samples in a timely manner to meet company turn around goals;
  • Act as a backup Login Clerk - Login training required: Enter client information, sample identification and analysis required;
  • Ensure correct due dates and comments are applied to the file;
  • Handling rush requests: notify the appropriate lab staff and Account Mangers;
  • Print labels for all samples containers;
  • Generate paperwork for any internal or external sublets analyses;
  • Pass the completed file, printed labels and sublet paperwork to a Sample Layout Clerk for final labelling.
  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Good English communication skills required (auditory, verbal, written, and reading);
  • Basic user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook), with basic computer skills;
  • Accurate and efficient data entry skills;
  • Well organized, with the ability to meet strict deadlines;
  • Process oriented, with the ability to critically think in ambiguous situations;
  • Work independently and as part of a team;
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to take on varied tasks as required;
  • Commitment to excellence and a client-focused attitude.
Required Qualifications

  • Experience working with chemicals or in a laboratory setting (ex. school) is an asset, but not required.
Physical Demands

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs./23 kg on a regular basis and carry for short distances;

Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as dust masks, gloves etc., when required;

Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;

Ability to stand for up to a full shift;

Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities;

You may be exposed to unpleasant fumes;

Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends
