Job summary

ALS is seeking a Centralized Water Prep Laboratory Assistant to join our Ontario team. You will perform sample preparation, routine lab maintenance tasks, and simple analyses.

Key duties include disposing samples, assisting analysts, retrieving and storing samples, aliquoting under supervision, and ensuring safety and quality. A high school diploma and prior lab experience are required; shift coverage includes days, afternoons and graveyards. Proficiency with MS Office and teamwork are valued.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Basic English communication skills (written and spoken).
  • Experience with laboratory tasks preferred.

About the Position

The Centralized Water Prep Laboratory Assistant is part of a team performing simple and complex sample preparation, routine laboratory maintenance tasks, and simple analyses.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Sample Disposal;
  • Assist analysts;
  • Train Lab Assistants;
  • Retrieve samples from storage;
  • Store samples in sample cooler;
  • Aliquoting samples under supervision;
  • Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality;
  • Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Good English communication skills required (auditory, verbal, writing, and reading);
  • Basic user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and confident with computers;
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately in a fast-paced environment;
  • Well organized, with proven ability to meet strict deadlines;
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to take on varied tasks as required;
  • Commitment to excellence and a client-focused attitude.
Required Qualifications
  • Completion of high school diploma or equivalent required;
  • Previous Laboratory experience.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs on a regular basis and carry for short distances;
  • Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks;
  • Wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) such as lab coat, gloves etc., when required;
  • You may be exposed to unpleasant odours;

Please note that ALS operates 24/7 and will require day, afternoon, and graveyard shift work including weekends.
