Our law firm client is seeking an experienced Law Firm Accountant / Bookkeeper to join their team.
The successful candidate will have prior law firm experience and trust accounting knowledge. Experience with PCLaw, Sage50, Clio, and QuickBooks would be an asset.
Responsibilities include:
- Accounting / Bookkeeping Tasks:
- Recording all trust and general account transactions daily
- Making deposits and printing trust and general cheques
- Accepting e-transfers for trust and general accounts
- Preparing credit card invoices for clients
- Reconciling and balancing monthly trust and general bank accounts
- Preparing and posting Statements of Account (fee billings)
- Maintaining trust ledger, accounts receivable sub-ledger, and accounts payable
- Preparing semi-monthly payroll
- Preparing spreadsheets of cash expenses
- Preparing necessary government remittances such as GST, PST, WCB, and payroll deductions
- Preparing periodic financial statements
- Preparing Law Society Trust Reports and supporting Trust Audits
- Sending memos to lawyers requesting input for Trust Reports
- Reminding lawyers to complete the annual practice declaration online
- Organizing and maintaining accurate records for retention periods
- Liaising with an accountant for year-end reporting
- Closing files
- Performing other duties as assigned
Supervision of Staff:- Overseeing accounting procedures
- Managing general office procedures and protocols
- Assisting staff with daily issues and problem-solving
Researching and Purchasing:- Office furniture, computers, software, photocopiers
Library Filing:- Updating files and maintaining subscriptions (e.g., BC Practice)
Insurance:- Submitting extended health claims, claims to PHSP
- Liaising with insurance brokers regarding liability, office, and group insurance, including renewals and certificates
Maintenance & Repair:- Coordinating with IT on PCs, software, network, printers, photocopiers
- Managing photocopier software users
Event Organization:- Organizing Christmas parties
Miscellaneous:- Coordinating with the landlord
- Managing petty cash
- Office organization
