Job summary

Rogers Communications, Inc. in Montreal, QC, is seeking an experienced Law Clerk to join our corporate legal team. You will own Small Claims matters in Quebec, coordinate with external counsel, and support cross-functional groups on regulatory and litigation tasks.

The role requires an accredited legal program, 10+ years in a law firm or comparable setting, and strong drafting, research, and organizational skills to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Graduated from an accredited legal program.
  • 10+ years of experience in a law firm or comparable setting with at least 5 years in litigation.
  • Experience working in a Québec legal environment is required.
  • Strong drafting, proofreading and document review skills.
  • Excellent organizational and communication abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Support various legal claims, disputes, requests and litigation-related matters.
  • Manage Small Claims actions in Québec from start to finish with ownership of assigned matters.
  • Liaise with external counsel on Superior Court matters in Québec.
  • Collaborate with the Toronto litigation team to manage nationwide Small Claims actions.
  • Review and respond to disclosure requests and court orders.
  • Provide consultation on legal and procedural compliance.
  • Proofread and check legal documents and communications for accuracy.
  • Conduct legal research and summarize findings for the team.
  • Assist counsel with responding to Human Rights complaints.
  • Monitor legal mailbox and ensure proper document uploads.

Working in a fast-paced, collegial atmosphere, the Law Clerk will be an integral member of the legal team and will work closely with members of the regulatory, customer service, and other cross‑functional departments. This role will provide key support on legal claims, disputes, disclosure requests, and litigation matters, with a particular focus on Québec Small Claims matters and related legal processes.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Support various legal claims, disputes, requests, and litigation‑related matters.
  • Manage Small Claims actions in Québec from start to finish, with full ownership of assigned matters, including reviewing claims, drafting defences and other legal documents, and attending mediations and trials.
  • Liaise with external counsel on Superior Court matters in Québec.
  • Work with the Toronto litigation team to manage Small Claims actions nationwide from start to finish, with ownership of assigned matters.
  • Review and respond to disclosure requests, including motions, originating applications, court orders, judgments, and subpoenas.
  • Provide consultation and direction on issues relating to legal and procedural compliance.
  • Proofread and check legal documents, correspondence, and other communications for accuracy, clarity, and completeness.
  • Conduct legal research and summarize relevant findings for the legal team.
  • Assist counsel with responding to Human Rights complaints.
  • Monitor and track the legal mailbox, as required.
  • Ensure documents are uploaded in Legal Document Management System (DMS) and emails are uploaded in Legal Outlook Mailbox for each matter
  • Attend weekly meetings with Toronto litigation team
What You Have
  • Successful completion of an accredited legal program.
  • 10+ years of work experience at a law firm or in a comparable legal environment, including a minimum of five years of litigation experience.
  • Experience working in a Québec legal environment is required.
  • Strong knowledge of the Civil Code of Québec, the Code of Civil Procedure, and other applicable Québec legislation, including privacy and access‑to‑information requirements.
  • In‑depth knowledge of legal terminology, litigation processes, and court procedures.
  • Strong legal drafting, proofreading, and document review skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage competing deadlines and priorities in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and procedural compliance.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a dynamic, fast‑paced, and rapidly changing environment, with or without direct authority.
  • Ability to network across departments and build solid working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Sound analytical, problem‑solving, and negotiation skills, with the ability to understand broad and complex legal issues.
  • Familiarity with internal billing, customer account, and case management systems is considered an asset.
  • A customer service background, particularly in the telecommunications industry, is considered an asset.
  • Québec legal training, certification, or equivalent practical experience is considered an asset.
About the Role

This is an opportunity for a highly organized and experienced legal professional to take ownership of litigation files, support cross‑functional legal work, and contribute to effective claims management in a collaborative legal environment. The successful candidate will bring strong Québec litigation experience, sound judgment, and a practical, service‑oriented approach to legal support.
