Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Energy Management, Land Administration, Geology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in land services, title research, or land negotiation.
• Strong understanding of land rights, property law, and permitting processes.
• Proficiency with GIS platforms and spatial data management tools, including web-based mapping apps, dashboards, or land management systems.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Willingness to travel regionally as project needs require.
• Professional land management designation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Research and analyze property ownership, title status, and land use rights using public records and title databases.
• Support the negotiation of surface use agreements, easements, rights-of-way, and lease terms with landowners and stakeholders.
• Assist with due diligence for real estate transactions, energy infrastructure projects, and site development.
• Maintain accurate records of land agreements and ensure compliance with laws and regulations.
• Draft and coordinate encroachment agreements, exhibits, and other land-related documents for review.
• Support mapping updates with ArcGIS to document right-of-way fieldwork.
• Create GIS-driven land management solutions, including spatial DBs, web maps, and dashboards.
• Coordinate with teams, clients, and agencies to secure land use approvals.
• Review deeds, legal descriptions, and GIS data to resolve title or access issues.
• Assist with permitting for energy projects including renewables, oil & gas, and utilities.

Job Summary

Langan is seeking a Land Management Professional in Calgary, AB to join our growing team of technical professionals supporting energy, environmental, and infrastructure projects. This individual will play an important role in supporting the development and expansion of Langan’s emerging Land Management service line. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting land research, negotiating land agreements, and ensuring legal and regulatory compliance for land use in support of energy and development projects. This position offers the opportunity to work with a nationally recognized consulting firm known for its collaborative environment and technical excellence.

Job Responsibilities

• Research and analyze property ownership, title status, and land use rights using public records and title databases.
• Support the negotiation of surface use agreements, easements, rights‑of‑way, and lease terms with landowners, legal representatives, and stakeholders.
• Assist with due diligence efforts for real estate transactions, energy infrastructure projects, and site development.
• Maintain accurate records of land agreements and ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulatory frameworks.
• Draft and coordinate preparation of encroachment agreements, exhibits, and other land‑related documents for project manager review.
• Support mapping updates in collaboration with the project team, utilizing digital software solutions (e.g. ArcGIS) to document right‑of‑way field work performed.
• Support the creation and enhancement of GIS‑driven land management solutions, including spatial databases, web maps, and interactive dashboards, to improve project planning, land tracking, reporting, and operational efficiency.
• Coordinate with internal project teams, clients, and governmental agencies to secure necessary land use approvals.
• Review and interpret deeds, legal descriptions, and GIS data to resolve title or access issues.
• Support permitting efforts for energy projects including renewables, oil & gas, and utility‑scale developments.
• Actively participate in internal Health and Safety training and maintain strong commitment to Health and Safety in the workplace and field.
• Assist with the preparation of reports, maps, and summaries of findings for internal and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Energy Management, Land Administration, Geology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in land services, title research, or land negotiation.
• Strong understanding of land rights, property law, and permitting processes.
• Ability to prioritize and respond to multiple requests from several sources and track a constantly evolving work schedule.
• Proficiency with GIS platforms and spatial data management tools, including experience supporting the development of web‑based mapping applications, dashboards, or land management systems, preferred.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• High level of organization and attention to detail.
• Willingness to travel regionally as project needs require.
• Professional land management designation preferred.
• Experience supporting oil and gas, renewable energy, or utility projects preferred.
• Knowledge of environmental regulations and permitting processes preferred.
• Familiarity with AutoCAD, Bluebeam, or project management software preferred.
