Job summary

Langan is seeking a Practice Leader– Environmental to join its collaborative Calgary team. This senior leadership role oversees and drives the growth of Langan's Environmental Practice, identifies and manages environmental engineering projects and proposals, conducts engineering research and analysis, and supervises field investigations and laboratory analyses.

The successful candidate will leverage Langan's technical leadership to manage diverse projects across Alberta and Western Canada,

Qualifications

  • 15+ years of progressive experience leading environmental assessment, site investigation, remediation, reclamation, and regulatory compliance projects in Canada, preferably in Alberta.
  • Professional designation in good standing (P.Eng. with APEGA or P.Geo. with APEGA) or other relevant environmental professional designation.
  • Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary teams, mentoring staff, managing project delivery, and growing client relationships and business development opportunities.
  • Experience with Phase I/II ESAs, remediation programs, risk assessments, and regulatory approvals.
  • Strong data interpretation, analyses, and modeling tools; excellent written and verbal communication and stakeholder engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Lead identification and pursuit of new clients and grow work within existing projects; participate in meetings with clients.
  • Provide oversight and mentorship of junior staff; hire and train environmental project teams.
  • Manage multiple projects within budgets, schedules, and deadlines.
  • Conduct complex analyses for portions of environmental projects.
  • Coordinate with clients, regulators, and project teams; supervise field activities and data analyses.

Job Summary

Langan is seeking anPractice Leader– Environmental to join its collaborative team in Calgary, AB. This individual will serve a key function in overseeing and driving the growth of Langan's Environmental Practice identifying and managing environmental/engineering projects and proposals, conducting engineering research and analysis, and supervising field investigations and laboratory analysis. In this role, you will have the opportunity to leverage Langan's robust technical expertise and leadership presence in the Calgary, AB market, manage diverse projects, and fuel the further expansion of an innovate and industry-renowned practice.

Job Responsibilities
  • Lead the identification and pursuit of new clients,develop additional work within an existing project and attend business development meetings with new and existing clients;
  • Provide direct oversight and management of junior staff for specific project assignments. Coach, train, and motivate staff assigned to Environmental projects. Participate in interviewing and hiring staff;
  • Management of junior staff, senior staff, and project managers;
  • Manage and deliver on multiple projects and tasks within specific budgets, schedules, and deadlines;
  • Perform complex analyses for specific portions of broader engineering and environmental projects;
  • Interface effectively and professionally with clients, contractors, subcontractors, staff, project personnel, supervisors, and others;
  • Supervise field activities and ensure correct interpretations of findings. Ensure that data collection and laboratory analyses are completed correctly, within budget, and on time;
  • Effectively organize, write, and edit reports, draft proposals, and other documents;
  • Coordinate other work groups within the same or different office locations and/or within the same or different disciplines on an as-needed basis; and
  • Perform other duties as requested.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Geological Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline; Master's degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive experience leading environmental assessment, site investigation, remediation, reclamation, and regulatory compliance projects in Canada, preferably within Alberta and Western Canada.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable federal, provincial, and municipal environmental regulations, including Alberta Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act (EPEA), Water Act, Contaminated Sites policies, and relevant Canadian environmental legislation and guidelines.
  • Professional designation in good standing, such as Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA, Professional Geoscientist (P.Geo.) with APEGA, or other relevant environmental professional designation recognized in Alberta.
  • Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary teams, mentoring staff, managing project delivery, and growing client relationships and business development opportunities.
  • Experience managing environmental due diligence, Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs), remediation programs, risk assessments, and regulatory approvals.
  • Strong understanding of environmental data interpretation, quantitative analyses, contaminant fate and transport principles, and industry-standard environmental software and modeling tools.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with clients, regulators, Indigenous communities, and project teams.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities, with exceptional attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in both independent and collaborative environments while driving strategic initiatives and operational excellence.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license (or equivalent) in good standing and willingness to travel throughout Alberta and Western Canada for client meetings, business development activities, and field/site visits.
