Job summary

Region of Peel is hiring Labourer, Waste Management in Brampton for a 12-month contract. The role involves front-line support at Community Recycling Centres, directing traffic, handling questions, and guiding residents on proper waste disposal at CRCs and transfer stations.

We require Grade 12, ability to operate equipment, good written and verbal communication, and a valid G license. CN/CR checks may be required; DZ license is a plus. This is an onsite position under CUPE Local 966.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent with six months related experience.
  • Able to operate and maintain a variety of manual and power equipment.
  • Written and verbal communications skills.
  • Capable of accurately completing required forms and reports.
  • Possess a Class “G” license in good standing.
  • Criminal Record Check (Level 1) is satisfactory.

Responsibilities

  • Direct activities to ensure safe dumping of vehicles and materials at CRCs, transfer stations and compost facilities.
  • Maintain cleanliness and appearance of sites and buildings.
  • Load and unload supplies and equipment from trucks.
  • Maintain and clean heavy equipment.
  • Provide prompt and efficient customer service.
  • Perform winter maintenance including snow clearing and landscaping as required.
  • Convey a positive image of the Region of Peel through professional conduct.

Status: 1 Short Term Contract Full Time Position, duration 12 months

Hourly Rate: $28.96/hr - $30.36/hr

Location and Work Mode: Onsite at 395 Chrysler Drive, Brampton, ON (Brampton CRC)

Hours of Work: Week 1 (36 Hours) Tues: Alt Day Off, Wed-Sat: 8AM-5PM Week 2 (44 Hours) Tues: 8AM-4PM, Wed-Sat: 8AM-5PM

CUPE LOCAL 966 - Public Works

The Role

This position provides essential front-line support for Community Recycling Centers (CRC), ensuring smooth platform operations and timely management of vehicle traffic entering and exiting the CRC. It also serves as the primary contact for residents' questions and assistance. Additionally, the role involves guiding residents on proper waste disposal and maintaining cleanliness and order at the CRCs during daily operations, while assisting the Sub-Foreperson throughout the day.

What you will do in this role
  • Direct activities and customers to ensure vehicles and materials are dumped in an orderly and safe manner at Community Recycling Centres, Transfer Stations and/or Compost Facilities.
  • Maintain cleanliness and appearance of site and buildings.
  • Load and unload supplies and equipment from trucks.
  • Maintain and clean heavy equipment.
  • Provide prompt and efficient customer service.
  • Perform winter maintenance including snow clearing and landscaping duties as required.
  • Maintain a neat appearance and performs duties in a way that conveys a "positive image" of the Region of Peel.
What The Role Requires
  • Minimum Grade 12 education or equivalent with six (6) months job related experience.
  • Able to operate and maintain a variety of manual and power equipment.
  • Written and verbal communications skills.
  • Capable of accurately completing required forms and reports.
  • Possess a Class “G” license in good standing.
  • Job testing may be required.
  • Mechanical aptitude with willingness to work outside, hands on in all types of weather conditions and within compost facility
  • A satisfactory Level 1 Criminal Record Check obtained directly from a police station (third-party background checks will not be accepted)
Nice To Have
  • A valid "DZ" license in good standing would be considered an asset.

Preference will be given to qualified candidates who are currently in the CUPE Local 966-Public Works bargaining unit.

Effective October 1, 2027, Peel Region’s Waste Collection Services will transfer to Brampton, Caledon, and Mississauga. Each municipality will take over service delivery on that date, with no interruption expected. Peel Region will continue supporting a smooth transition for residents. Peel Region will continue to manage Community Recycling Centres (CRC) along with transfer, processing, and disposal services.
