Job summary

City of Kitchener is seeking a temporary part-time Arena Attendant to support day-to-day operations at our community arenas including Sportsworld, Activa, Lions, Grand River, Don McLaren and Civic Square. Responsibilities

• Perform janitorial tasks per daily/weekly work plan, including washrooms, public areas and stands.
• Support on-ice procedures with Full-Time staff (move nets, shovel snow).
• Assist with setup for events/room rentals (chairs, tables, stage deck, curtains).
• Perform outdoor maintenance (snow removal, hand salting, grass cutting, litter pickup).
• Provide exceptional customer service and interact professionally with patrons and staff.

Overview

This position is Temporary Part-Time for approximately 8 months. This position will assist in the day-to-day activities of our multi-use facilities. We are looking for responsible individuals, with the ability to work a variety of shifts at our Community Arenas including Sportsworld, Activa, Lions, Grand River, Don McLaren and Civic Square. Note that shifts will be predominantly evenings and weekends for regular programming and special events, and mandatory online training will be required prior to starting your first day of work.

Responsibilities

• Performs janitorial tasks in accordance with the daily and weekly work plan, such as cleaning washrooms, dressing rooms, meeting/hospitality rooms, public areas, stands and outside grounds. Further details on what will be required is listed below:
  • Sweep and mop floors in dressing rooms using brooms and mops
  • Clean sinks, countertops, toilets, urinals, mirrors, windows, walls, floors, water fountains, and all touch points
  • Empty wastebaskets, garbage cans, recyclables, compost and transports to disposal areas
  • Re-stock paper products
• Supports our Full-Time staff with on ice procedures - move nets, shovel snow.
• Assists with set-up for special events/room rentals (chairs, tables, stage deck, curtains).
• Performs outdoor maintenance including snow removal, hand salting, grass cutting, line trimming, picking litter.
• Assists with baseball diamond preparation, raking, sweeping.
• Provides exceptional customer service.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education

• Minimum equivalent to partial secondary school education.

Experience

• Up to 1 month of related experience.

Additional Requirements

• Ability to work weeknights and weekend shifts, including some holiday shifts; starting as early as 7:00am and finishing as late as 1:00am.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Ability to skate and perform public skate duties/patrol, monitoring patrons to ensure following city guidelines.
• Able to work in a team environment with limited supervision in a fast-paced work environment.
• Able to work in inclement weather conditions (cold indoor environment as well as all outside weather conditions).
• Demonstrate strong customer service skills and the ability to interact professionally and positively with patrons, user groups, contractors, and coworkers.
• Adhere to the policies and procedures of The Aud and Arenas, which will be provided to you upon hire.
• Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
