Job summary

Compass Group Canada is seeking a Labour Relations Manager for a 1-year contract in Canada. The role focuses on fostering positive internal and union relationships, interpreting collective agreements, and leading bargaining, grievances, and investigations.

  • Foster and promote positive relationships internally and with union leaders and stewards.
  • Track key trend analysis of grievances.
  • Interpret collective agreements.
  • Lead collective bargaining, grievance, and arbitration processes.
  • Participate in investigations and disciplinary actions involving unionized staff termination.
  • Coordinate and facilitate labour-relations training at site level.
  • Advise management on labour relations issues.
  • Support change management and communication training.
  • Mentor People & Culture team and ensure compliance with employment acts.

Job description

The salary range for this position is $80,000 to $85,000. Final compensation will be determined based on relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and internal equity. In addition to base salary, eligible employees may be entitled to other elements of total compensation, which may include group benefits, employer RRSP contributions, & discretionary bonus or incentive programs, where applicable to the role. We are committed to offering competitive compensation & comply with all applicable pay transparency legislation. Further details regarding our total rewards program will be shared by the Talent Acquisition team during the hiring process. Canadian work experience is not a requirement for this role. Please note that artificial intelligence‑based tools may be used at certain stages of the recruitment & applicant screening process.

  • Foster and promote positive relationships internally as well as with key union leaders- and job stewards.
  • Track key trend analysis of grievances.
  • Interpret collective agreements.
  • Lead collective bargaining, grievance, and arbitration resolution processes.
  • Involved in investigations and approve unionized staff disciplinary action involving termination.
  • When required, coordinate and facilitate labour relations related training at site level and proactively educate Managers and People & Culture team on progressive union relations
  • Advise Management team on all labour relations issues.
  • Support and facilitate change management and communication training.
  • Source of mentorship to the People & Culture team and provide guidance and counsel on all labour relations matters in parallel with managing risk associated with Human Rights and Provincial Employment Standards Acts and Labour Relations Acts compliance.

  • A minimum of 5 years in a Labour Relations position and/or People & Culture Management position in a unionized environment.

  • Excellent analytical and communication (verbal and written) skills.
  • Strong planning, creative thinking, and organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated and capable multitasker
  • Demonstrated track record of building and enhancing third party relationships such as unions, legal counsel and ministry officials.
