Job summary

Airswift, on behalf of a major client in the oil & gas industry, seeks a Laboratory Technician to join their team in Fort Saskatchewan, AB. This is a 1-year contract with the possibility of extension.

The role involves routine and non-routine analyses, QA/QC compliance, and collaboration with plant operations. The ideal candidate holds a Chemical Technology Diploma or a BSc in Chemistry/Environmental Science with hands-on lab instrumentation experience, including GC, ICP, IC, FTIR, XRF.

Qualifications

• Chemical Technology Diploma, BSc in Chemistry or Environmental Science or equivalent preferred
• Hands on experience with laboratory instrumentation and proven ability to troubleshoot equipment. i.e. GC, ICP, Autotitrator, HACH, COD, IC, XRF, FTIR, NMR etc.
• Ability to work independently and in a flexible team environment.
• Solid organizational, interpersonal, and computer skills.
• Diversified communication and interpersonal skills.
• Familiarity with a laboratory environment and ability to prioritize work in changing plant operations.
• Familiarity with working with lab equipment, instrumentation and troubleshooting, and LIMS data entry.
• Safety first mind set.

Responsibilities

• Perform accurate and on-time routine and non-routine analysis including final product certification.
• Daily and effective communication with operational, environmental, engineering departments and off-spec notification as needed.
• Troubleshoot and maintain laboratory instrumentation and equipment as per identified standard requirements (i.e. internal QA/QC, preventative maintenance, ISO 9001 and 17025).
• Support continuous improvement to assure reliable operations of the laboratory.
• Work closely with other laboratory team and plant operations to assist in product quality investigations.
• Participate in internal and external audits.

• Hands on experience with laboratory instrumentation and proven ability to troubleshoot equipment. i.e. Gas Chromatography (GC), Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP), Autotitrator, HACH test kits, Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) testing, Ion Chromatography (IC), Discrete Analyzer, X-Ray Fluorescence Spectroscopy (XRF), Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Hydraulic Press, Extruder, Melt Flow Index, Instron Tensile Tester, Izod Impact Tester, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (NMR), etc.
• Ability to work independently and in a flexible team environment.

Schedule:

• This a rotation schedule 4 days on, 5 days off, 5 days on, 4 days off etc. Shifts may include working nights.
